Thought Ciarán Doyle, Charlie Roark, Colin Carley, and Podge Doyle were our best today

Think we've struggled physically at underage level in recent years but competed well today, difference was that their full-forward-like absolutely cleaned us out and then we hit a scandalous number of wides

Typical wexford hurling performance, wide after wide and that down to lack of quality forwards. We had a lot of the play and possession but simply Galway were more economical with their scores. Niylin for Galway was a big factor in the difference between the teams he scored 3 8 from 4 12 and Galway scored 1, 1 in injury time. 14 wides to 4 tells it own story. O Brien who I really rate was woeful on the frees today. Galway the better team by 5 or 6 points for me, the scoreline flattered them slightly. But we have a long way to go if we are going to make a mark In this championship. Hopefully we have a few lads to come back in. Roark for me was Wexford best man

Disappointing margin of defeat in a game where we actually created more scoring attempts than Galway. It was the first underage game I saw us play Galway where we seemed to be a match for them physically. We won plenty of ball around the pitch and in fairness to the team they worked really hard all the way through.
Aaron Niland was pure class, scored 3-9 and was the difference between the teams on a terrible day for hurling. if we play them again we will have to try something different, maybe play a deeper spare man.

Was that u17 team today the team that will play in the minor championship? Or was it the year below

We got to a Leinster Final 3 years ago beating Kilkenny twice on the way there. We beat Dublin at minor and u20 last year for the first time in many many years, beating them in both grades in the same year. Yes we lost pretty badly in other games for sure, but we have won games also.

It was our second team. Some of those lads might play their way onto the 1st team.

Hardly. We need to be producing players every year to win an AI, something we havent done consistently since the 60s, and most of those lads never won an AI either anyway, come to think of it. And some of the best players on that 2024 minor team, well definitely the best player and a couple of other good players, have opted to play u20 Football, which is entirely their right.

Replying To Magpie2:  "Well beaten in the end. 1.08 is a very poor return for 60 + minutes. The lads tried hard but were quite simply outclassed by a very good Galway team. The strong wind should have had us leading at half time but terrible wides from distance was our downfall.
Galway were much more economical and fully deserved to win.
Big ask next week as we take on the cats. Let's hope that we can produce a better performance then and get back on track."
I watched the game, we werent outclassed by a team. We were outclassed by a lad who will be starting for their Seniors this year, along with others on that team we played.

We should.

Replying To ElGranSenor:  "Yeah, take out Niland and it was a 50/50 game, really wasn't as one-sided as the scoreline makes it out to be, they still deserved to win by a good bit though and they had a few missing plus Rabbitte went off at HT

Going back three years ago, they pretty much annihilated everyone in Leinster, was a fairly big shock when they lost to Clare in the AI Final"
Was a huge shock

Kinda our second string minor team. 1 5 to 6 up playing against the wind(according to wexford twitter) at half time but even though we had the wind in the second half we lost 1 11 to 1 7 typical wexford :(

Its ok, we beat Kk in a Round Robin game 2 years ago. We are gone so far off it. 2 points from play in 60 mins and lads trying to defend it? Honestly.

That was at minor. We beat Kilkenny in a round robin game and a knockout game at this level less than 3 years ago.
Galway only scored 6 points from play themselves. It wasnt a day for scoring points. But they had a Senior intercounty starter who got them 3 goals. They are red hot favourites to win the AI this year.

Who is making them hot favourites? They have been well beaten by a few of the Munster counties in challenge matches.

They're 8/15 to win Leinster anyway so they probably are hot favourites to win the AI tbf

And I'm not sure results in practice matches count for much, you don't know who has what sort of side out, I'm guessing the likes of Niland and Rabbitte weren't playing in most of those practice matches

Yeah, kinda agree, personally thought that a 7/8 point win for them would've been a fairer reflection of the game but I suppose that's all academic, any chance of getting 1st in the group is in all likelihood gone after today, win next week's game and we have a chance at 2nd but lose and we basically have a Preliminary QF against Kildare at Wexford Park (Lose that and we'd actually have to qualify for Leinster next year, I think)

I think out of the starting set of forwards today, O'Brien is the only one who is probably capable of scoring heavily from play and he's not even 18, Carley was good and has his uses but don't think his game is really about scoring, think Jack Nolan has potential but that might be more as a midfielder or half-back rather than in the forwards. Doyle did well enough but agree that we probably have a lack of scoring power, think Kilkenny will be very strong in defence next week (Conceded 3 points from play to Kildare) but their forwards might be a bit weaker (16 wides against Kildare)

I hadn't seen any of their practice games before today and haven't been at their training sessions but found it odd that Charlie Mooney was on the bench and didn't even come on and that Kian O'Connor wasn't even in the matchday squad. We had lads coming on who weren't even playing for their Senior side at club level last year while Mooney was a regular starter for a good Rathnure side, O'Connor was playing for Oulart too, thought they were weird omissions but again, I don't see what's going on at training

Mooney in at wing-back (Mooney-Doyle-Roark would be a very tall and strong half-back-line) and then O'Connor and Darragh Ryan brought into the forwards would be good moves IMO, would add some height to the team (Although this team was bigger and had better S&C than previous Wexford teams), very important that we are physically able to compete with Kilkenny next week

They are hot favs to win the All Ireland as they basically have a 66% chance of getting to the final.
Munster is so well balanced no one there currently has probably more than a 33% chance of getting to that final. They might not be the best team in Ireland but similar to Asenal in the champions league they are on the easier side of the draw.

That game today was much closer than the scoreboard would suggest. Wexford should have been 6 or more points up at half time.
