Hope they were, but also heard Paudie Foley was training and a few additions like Philip Dempsey etc would strengthen the set up.

Thought Dempsey was very good last night but never really had him down as an intercounty type, maybe as a full-back given we have a bit of a problem there right now and he's a big, physical, athletic type who doesn't take any prisoners

Maybe Conor Firman is worth another ago at corner-back for Wexford?

Mikey Coleman is another I think who maybe deserves some consideration, always seems to be out in front and has a great work ethic, really sets the tone defensively from the front

Good way to come in pressure is alll on ballyg .
If they underestimate the martins team spirit workrate and overall togetherness they will regret it .
Jason Ryan will give ballyg a god run down on sll the martins"
Not sure how much more hed know about them than any of the rest of us

Philip Dempsey was good with the Footballers. Hopefully he stays there we need our best Footballers playing Football.

Congrats St Martins on a great Leinster final win (hurling) -so does the ends justify the means?? considering St Martins put out an u10 team in their football 1/4 against Tubberclaire and got a right trimming -scoring just 1 point into the bargin.!!wonder how do the non hurling footballers feel about their sacrifice or do they just fall in behind the club and enjoy the feats of the hurlers

Well done to St. Martins, a good club of people and showed yesterday that they have a never say die belief to them. This needs to be replicated in so many clubs in Wexford. Jack gave a performance for the ages.
But, they should not view now as bonus territory. That's just self-limiting also-ran talk. They beat the 2 best teams in Leinster, you might never be back to that stage again, you have to seize the moment and go for it.

You are obviously unaware that Martins, like most dual clubs down here, are genuinely dual. There were at least 12 lads played 1st team Football and Hurling for them, likely even more. To expect them to fulfil an Intermediate fixture on an AstroTurf pitch and be ready for a Senior Semifinal the following weekend was pretty unreasonable.

Absolutely. But they have a big club wedding on Friday to get through first.

The football only buys are back in Senior Club championship next year and that would have been their ambition since the start of the year. I can guarantee you they would have been 100% behind the team.

The lead coach announcement isn't because of the Martins progression .. but because of Ballygunners progression ;-)

Super win for Martins and they were far better team - The 2nd goal kept Ballyhale in the game when they were been beaten in most positions. Took Martins time to settle and I don't think they had their match-ups right at the start.

I do think if they are to have any hope against Ballygunner they will need to go 15-15 for the puck outs - Ballyhale put every puck out through Richie Reid on Saturday night and then he delivered the final ball. They got quite a few scores out of this tactic .. Ballygunner will move it through the lines if they are given the same freedom from puckouts. Rathnure did it to a certain extent in the county final. Na Piarsaigh went 15-15 for second half of their game against Ballygunner and had them rattled but just didn't have the firepower to see it over the line.

The one standout thing about the Martins is their patience - For a lot of the time Ballyhale had 2 loose men in their half back line. Easiest thing in world is to get rid of ball with long clearance. Instead they worked it to a better position and then delivered - sometimes it doesn't work but most of the time it does. Similar with a free Jack O Connor went backwards with. It was either that or drive a 60/40 ball into a crowded full back line .. All the pundits were giving out .. the crowd were groaning .. but the result was a massive point at a critical time just after they had missed two pretty simple scores. Rory's overhead catch and score from the sideline was one of the best scores i have seen in Croke Park. His hook and turnover in the 50+ minute was majestic (they missed subsequent shot though)

And finally - Leinster Club Senior / Intermediate / Junior titles in Wexford over past two seasons .. and apparently Wexford Club Hurling is on its knees .. It's time we started to believe in ourselves as a county. We are better than we think we are. As I said a few months ago - whoever won Wexford would have a serious chance in Leinster.

The right decision was made.

St Martins are now Leinster senior hurling champions, I wouldn't foresee that happening if they played week in week out with a lot of same players in football/hurling.

The reality is Wexford is shifting more towards a hurling county among clubs more and more.

In my opinion Wexford has been a hurling county for a long time maybe since the 50s apart from a poor period in the late 00s when Jason Ryans footballers were competing with the top teams
