Replying To wexford2012:  "Excellent post, we hear about the 'sacrifice' players make all the time and I've some sympathy with this but players also get so much back from clubs too, there are many rewards (tangible and intangible). While coaches, club officers, people who line pitches etc get look for little and get even less credit at times."
Not many clubs are managed by people within any more at the top level. For 2nd teams, fair enough. But how many senior teams are managed from within?
Pitches tend to be lined by people who are paid via various schemes. Solas is it?
Club officers yes.
I don't think its viewed that players make a sacrifice, but I think what is not fair on players is when a manager is dictating their lives and trying to tell them how they need to live it.
Like I know a player who had 2 bottles of beer at a 21st who was questioned about it the Tuesday after. Where do these guys get off?

Any reasoning why games have been so poor so far? Not one prospect appearing?

There's a serious ethically quandary in all this.

What is right vs what is required to win.

Do we want to be known as great Gaels in accordance with the ethos of the gaa or do we want to be winners?

Yeah I think some people view a club as their own bastion of control when in reality the best clubs always run best with everybody working together and acknowledging their strengths and focusing on those.
Some people over teams in our club are great at dealing with players and their emotions. Some are great at coaching the skills. Some are great at organising fundraisers. Some are great committee members and supporters. The importance of knowing your lane, working in it and staying in it cannot be underestimated.
It would be my worst nightmare to be involved in the administrative side of a club but I know and understand the vital function these people perform.

Replying To Timbertony:  "So club players want a fixed calendar, fine. But not if it clashes with EP or the Fleadh, what's next? Maybe senior club players need to make some sacrifices too if standards are to improve."
Are you saying the club players wanted the Fleadh weekend off? I think you are not understanding the situation here to be honest.

The Fleadh weekend being off is nothing to do with the players. Might suit some for sure, but I don't know of any who asked for that weekend off.
