15,000+ at Minor Hurling Final. 12,000 of those wouldn't have got tickets if with Senior Final. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2507 - 01/07/2025 13:16:46 2622869 Link 1 |
I know what you're saying but I still think the minor final should be a curtain raiser to the senior All Ireland in both codes…like it was for decades.. I think the reason for changing it was nothing to do with tickets or people not being able to attend was it not because they reckoned that players of that age profile might feel too much pressure on All Ireland Final day in Croke Park…? Surely a huge crowd in a small venue would effect them just as much if not more…!

If there's a good day to miss frees it's when they were playing the likes of Monaghan or Caaaavan.

That is sooooooooooo funny! I'm from Cavan so you made a joke about Cavan. Genius. Not the first time you've made that "joke" either. Better not make anymore playful jibes about Donegal for fear of irritating..... a Tyrone man?

Ciaran Kirk writing in todays Irish Times states that "From 61 provincial and All Ireland championship games so far in 2025, only three would have ended in a different result if there was no two-point arc". letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 774 - 01/07/2025 17:25:51 2622950 Link 0 |
Lies, damn lies, and statistics. The existence of the arc completely changes the approach and decision making of most sides. For instance, a team that might have attempted 6 2-pointers amd kicked all 6 wide might well have been able to run in 3 or 4 one-pointers. The stats ignore that. I wouldn't read too much into them. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5298 - 02/07/2025 14:47:47 2623169 Link 0 |
Pure nonsense…these statistics are in no way relevant... How would anyone know what way a game would go if there was no 2pt arc… there would be probably more goal chances and goals which might change the result of multiple games.. The sight of defenders patrolling the arc and the opposition hand passing over and back for several minutes does absolutely nothing for the game…!

For me Kerry are favourites followed by Donegal. I hope we can give Donegal a scare and keep it close but unfortunately feel they may have too much for us in the end. Very proud either way Meath10 (Meath) - Posts: 203 - 03/07/2025 13:25:18 2623414 Link 2 |
How is it lies? It's literally just the facts . We would have beaten Donegal , Cavan ( though we lost v Cavan because we didn't show up ) and Galway if no 2 pointer . If your looking to old rules we would have been in the quarter final and Donegal would be gone . Think Meath will do the business v Donegal handily enough to . 2 pointer rule should go it's just stupid. If keeping the 2 pointer make a goal 4 points .

The 2 pointer has been the big game changer and actually the rule leads to more goal scoring opportunities. Being in Croke Park last week for the 4 games, it was noticable that a lot of goal scoring opportunites were spurned. Cant put a finger on why that was.

You can't take one rule in isolation like that and come to that conclusion. As other's have also pointed out the 2 pointer changes the way teams defend. Its impossible to say how the close games would have gone under the old rules and everyone is well aware of the rules so its not an excuse. If there were no 2 pointers the tactics would have been different. You can understand that? Quit with the if or should scenarios and living in the past. Cavan beat us well. Galway, Donegal closed out their games well. End of. I say us but I don't believe for one second that you're from Mayo with all the trolling you do here.

I wasn't surprised that Monaghan got off to a flying start against Donegal. I wasn't surprised that Donegal responded either. Hard to argue about Donegal being installed as favourites. Meath and Tyrone then are the in form teams. The two group winners to get through the quarter finals. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8982 - 04/07/2025 15:29:13 2623625 Link 0 |
Totally agree with your point's. The matches would be totally different and cannot be compared. I would also agree that the poster you refer to could be from anywhere.

How does it lead to more goal scoring opportunities ..?. The inside mark was supposed to increase goal scoring opportunities but this has failed spectacularly..,All the 2 pointers do is inflate the score line as any inter county player worth his salt should be able to score from that distance in any case.. They do keep teams in games regardless of how far they are behind but the negative about them is that teams like Armagh start going for Hail Mary shots in desperation when trying to work a goal scoring chance might be more beneficial….

It frees up space because defences put bodies out to defend against two point kicks and there's more space left behind them for a runner to get down on goal or pass it to player for a goal opportunity. That's the theory anyways. Donegal zonal defence has a good handle on defending the arc and preventing goals scored.

Why did the GAA appoint 2 Ulster referees for the All Ireland semifinals when 2 Ulster teams are involved…? I have no doubt both are capable referees but why would the GAA risk controversy like this when alternatives from outside either provinces were readily available for either matches…? Its a strange one alright considering the small number of football fixtures remaining and there is no Connaught representative left in competition. winatallcost (Meath) - Posts: 732 - 05/07/2025 11:33:03 2623717 Link 1 |
Paddy Neilan has the final.
