I wonder why GAA+ don't bother showing any club games?

Unlimited content flying into mobile devices these days, very likely RTE are losing viewers. There can't be many stuck viewing TV ads anymore in this day and age."
I don't know if RTE will fade away, because while we can get news and info from lost of sources, not much of it can be trusted as authentic, unbiased and accurate and a lot of people trust RTE still. I do think Ireland needs to have a reality check into how public money is spent annually, like how we are ending up €10 billion further in National debt this decade, despite some of the most lucrative years on record.

The public sector needs a major overhaul, particular the admin sectors and the Unions that protect these non-productive environments, which has seen criminal project management costing the state billions in recent years and those responsible suffer no consequences.

A friend of mine works with a private company on National scale projects and recent dealt with a state owned entity, he said he was shocked that not once during a series of project meetings did anyone from the Public owned body once ask about the estimated cost or mention budgets, it was just a case of "Ah sure whatever it costs it costs".

Im not sure if an unbiased news entity exists today, either on social media or the corporate media. I certainly find the rte very selective in terms of the news they reveal,but if people still trust them then it's not for me to tell them what to think.

I get what you mean, especially in the US, where you have FOX/Pro-Republican, while CNN is more pre-Democrat leaning or certainly that is how they are viewed. The UK is similar, with more right leaning GB News vs more centered or left SKY or BBC.

RTE definitely can be selective at times, particularly in how they sometimes report National protests on fuel, on MICA blocks, Immigration protests or anything anti-Government. They often tend to understate the scale of these protests.
However I would still deem them more trustworthy than other international news agencies to report International affairs in a more unbiased basis.

Pretty amazing results here. Maybe explains why the GAA are turning towards streaming

In 2025, among EU countries, the largest shares of internet users with paid subscriptions to a films, series or sports streaming services were in:

Ireland (63.9%)
Denmark ( 61.1%)

Lowest in:
Bulgaria (9.3%)
Slovenia (13.7%)

Ireland is number 1

Because the County Boards who run those club games own the broadcast rights to them. That's what allows them to do deals with Clubber or operate their own streaming service. If GAA+ wanted to show a club game, they'd have to pay the County Board, the same way RTE or TG4 do when they show a club match.

GAA+ doesn't have to pay for the broadcast rights of the inter-county matches it does show because the GAA centrally owns the broadcast rights to those ones.

That's interesting. Its pretty much a independent competition from the GAA? So GAA deal with AI semi final onwards?

Free to air numbers in Australia

AFL: On average, AFL free-to-air broadcasts attracted more than 550,000 additional viewers than competing sports, winning 15 of 21 Thursday night contests and 16 of 23 Friday night contests on average audiences.

The 550,000 additional viewers is based on reach audiences. The average Reach on a Thursday for the AFL was 1.906m, the average NRL reach was 1.473m. The average Reach on Friday was 1.828m, the average NRL reach was 1.372m.

Average AFL (average) ratings on Fridays was 647,000, this was up from 621,000 last year. Seven says Fridays are up 5%, but VOZ has it up 4.1% for nationally broadcast matches. Close enough.

On average ratings, the AFL won 10 of 17 Thursday night contests where the AFL went head to head with the NRL, and 14 of 25 up against all NRL/W programming. If Reach is taken into account its 21/25 Thursdays to the AFL (16-1 head to head AFL)

On Average ratings, the AFL won Friday nights 21-4 (15-3 if you exclude double headers), If reach is your thing the AFL wins 24-1.

Counties manage their own championships, the provincial club championships are organised by the provincial councils and the GAA are responsible for the All-Ireland series.
