Yeah, I don't know whether they improved tenfold some that day or else we under-performed but if you acknowledge the Laois result, you also have to acknowledge the Dublin result

Goes to show how poor a format it is, Dublin lost their two group games both this year and last year at U20 level and yet they made a Leinster Final two years in a row. Their Minors lost all three games and are now in a Leinster SF too. Not saying there's anything wrong with what they're doing (We made a Leinster Final at U20 in 2023 having only won 1/3 group games) but it goes to show how meaningless the group games are

With all due respect lads, do you think players have nothing else to do?
Most players are training 3 times a week and a match at the weekend. Between that there are recovery sessions, ball work, etc.
And then you expect them to go coach the u14's or be the club secretary and give another couple of nights a week to that?
And then people wonder why players walk away. What is everybody else in the club doing? Why can't mammy who lets the kids out at the gate become club secretary instead of running away once the kids are out of the car?

On the topic of coaches, I can tell you now we were managed by an All-Ireland winner and he was the biggest spoofer I ever saw coaching a team. We almost got relegated and the narrative out there within days was "they are a bad bunch" and on to the next club went this spoofer. And the same happened there. And he is still on that merry-go-round.
You do not need to be a great player to be a great coach and never did. Professional sport is full of people who never played the sport they excelled in coaching. Alastair Clarkson, coach of the North Melbourne Kangaroos AFL team was nothing of a player and coached Hawthorn to 4 AFL titles.
In fact, I would almost go as far as to say more often than not great coaches become so because their playing careers were a failure - so this is another throw of the dice in a sport they want to be successful in.
Regarding the development squads, why aren't these coaches paid? They are much more important than a club paying out to a spoofer to manage a junior A team.

Similar tale here. AI winner as a player brought in as a coach. He had us doing a lap or a two during training while he thought of and setup the next drill! The one positive was it made the group realise how much better our own lads were and your man got kicked the kerb. Some amount of spoofers on the club circuit.

I agree 100%, the lads coaching our development squads should be getting more expenses. That would encourage better lads to do it.

Are the GAA talking about putting an end to outside coaches? My father was telling me the GAA were thinking of restricting people to only managing the club and county they are officially registered to

Yep. Another initiative moving towards self perpetuating elites.

No...and was frankly poor when I saw him in the league this year a couple of times. Showed more promise last year. But would give him a go.
