What an outstanding achievement to win the Minor Munster and All Ireland. Congratulations to Brian O Connell and team. A special mention to Donal Maloney who has been involved now with several All Ireland winning underage teams. T'would have been easy for him to sail off into the sunset after he was overlooked for the senior job by himself but in fairness to the man, he is Clare through and through and knew he had something to offer the youth. We are seeing the benefits of that now. Just our second All Ireland minor shows the significance of yesterdays result against a hotly fancied Galway team. Clare beat Tipperary, Cork (twice), Limerick, Waterford, Kilkenny and Galway on the way to the title. That is some achievement. Lads like Gunning, Hegarty, Collins look destined for senior hurling but the pathway to senior is a minefield and these young lads need to keep at it. I'm sure the likes of Maloney will keep them focussed on the task at hand. LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2409 - 05/06/2023 07:52:02 2484108 Link 1 |
Fantastic achievement by your minors LRH! As you say it's a big jump for a 16 year old to become a Senior intercounty hurler and hopefully your lads stick at it! Future looks alot brighter than a couple of years ago! Goes to show how good management and a few star players can elevate a team from ok to very good indeed!!

Whats the confidence like for Sunday LRH? I'd imagine there is some buzz around Clare these days..

Ah listen there is a bit of tentative confidence alright, tentative to the extent that we are playing the winners of the last 3 all irelands but confident as we believe we have the tools to dethrone them, in Munster anyway. There is a great buzz around the place though and all we talk about his hurling. Even got a great boost from the under 20s this year, who although lost out marginally in the Munster final proved they are probably in top 2-3 in Ireland this year. Clare minors, under 20s and seniors contested the Munster final year year. Isn't often that happens in Clare. LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2409 - 06/06/2023 19:04:20 2484540 Link 0 |
Regardless of the outcome next Sunday, Clare hurling is in a very good place and can look to the future with a lot of confidence. I really enjoyed watching your minors and Under 20s this year - a lovely style of play with skillful players all over the field.

Congratulations to the Clare Minors. Congratulations to Tubber winning the Kilbeacanty 7 a sides too. Clare Hurling has as bright a future as any county in the country right now. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 1963 - 07/06/2023 11:30:27 2484695 Link 0 |
Winning in sport breeds such confidence and it can feed across all teams. A win on Sunday will be huge for Clare. They've back up last year performances and there loss to KK seems to now to be only an outlier. While I would like to see both teams lose (only messing - kind of!) I'm looking forward to this one.

6 Clare players named on minor team of the year with Gunning winning POTY. What an outstanding achievement. I thought our goaly Sherry did enough to get the goalkeeper position too but not to be. LohansRedHelmet (Clare) - Posts: 2409 - 30/06/2023 10:26:18 2490794 Link 1 |
Think so too. While I've always been a Limerick fan in Munster I've always felt that Clare and Waterford would be like us as well.

Wow! There's a Clare hurling thread. And there was I all along thinking that they had a license from Limerick to operate on on their one. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 1783 - 01/07/2023 02:34:21 2490923 Link 1 |
I think McCarthy could be gone for the rest of the season. Such a pity after all he went through last year

I can't see Cleary playing at all this season. Shoulder injuries are very tough to recover from. If there was a miracle and he starts you'd expect KK to give him a welcome to croke Park shoulder in the first few mins. Mccarthy I'm also unsure of as again his injury usually takes a while to recover properly from. 2 weeks should be fine for Conlon but it's hard to know with concussions. I feel he'll start. The others I expect to play. Buachaillbui (Clare) - Posts: 117 - 01/07/2023 09:41:56 2490943 Link 1 |

McCarthy is not injured, at least according to Lohan after the Munster final. Even so, I would not be overly surprised if he were still not picked. We might see Rodgers in the half forwards instead, with maybe Ian Galvin in from the start.
