Replying To Ulsterman:  "Usually have a lot time for Tomas O'Se but his sneering, gloating remarks about Kerry's defeat of Tyrone were uncalled for. Tomas and his Kerry team were put in their place by Tyrone quite a few times."
Loosen up. He told a joke.

Replying To suckvalleypaddy:  "Monaghan got a brilliant victory, congrats to them.
The ref? Conor Lane made some interesting decisions.
The free kick in 26th minute of injury time that Rory Began took short was a brilliant move.
My problem with this is that refs all season long have told players it's the last kick
of game. Other counties did not get this luxury and the price was heavy.
Time was added on to Armagh's disadvantage.
Penalty shoot out by both teams was excellent.
Congrats Monaghan."
Any thoughts on the black card for Sean Jones that left Monaghan with 14 at a critical stage. Here is a link to the passage of play https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZGJXuDweV/
The reality is Armagh couldn't win vs 14 men.

I think that it's a lot to do with the nature of the free given. Karl O'Connell was racing away from two Armagh men, they dragged him down but then they both payed on top of him in a ridiculously blatant bit of momentum killing. They stayed on top of him for a good 15 seconds like a rugby ruck and by the time the ref had them up and the players chased off the whole game was paused for a good 2 minutes, so the clock was running but the game was stopped.

Interestingly he didn't move the ball forward for time wasting - he kinda punished Monaghan by making them take the free from where it was, when the Monaghan players were howling at him to move it up, as it is in the rule book. If he had of done it would have been a free about ~48 yards out, well within beggan/mcmanus range - but it would have been a near impossible shot to take given the situation. Where he insisted the free was taken from was still within beggans range for a free but;

During the break in play Shane Carey ran to the sideline to the linesman to get confirmation on weather it was the last kick, then to the ref, then back to the management and finally out to beggan - who kicked the free short. So clearly Monaghan were given clear instructions that this wasn't the last kick, and as such they opted to work it short.

Poor game between Armagh and Monaghan but what a joy to see Conor McManus. Whatever about the rest of the match, his cameo would have been worth the entrance fee alone. Long range left foot, right foot, pressure clutch free and two top bin penalties either side of the keeper. One of the best inside forwards of his generation. Armagh have some decent forwards but with McGeeney not allowing them to express themselves because of his park the bus tactics they'll never realise their potential. What purpose does forwards coach "star" serve in a squad that doesn't allow its forwards to play? He must be costing the orchard a few bob. Maybe he's coaching them how to post up in another sport.

this was non-sense"
Were you even watching the game?
If you were you would know why there was extra minutes added.
Have you any comments on the Monaghan Black card, the hawkeye moment or the fair shoulder that we got punished for?

Hard luck to Armagh though nobody deserves to lose a close game like that in that fashion. Though on the penalty taker that missed also.

How many should have been retaken?

Probably most of them I'd say.

Also does the takers not have to be in the same order second time around or can they change order? Genuine question.

I addressed an aspect of the game that was a concern;
Congrats Monaghan, enjoy.

So if a player scores his pen, you think he should penalised because the keeper broke the rules ?

I'd disagree on the poor game - for the neutral it wasn't a shootout barnstormer extravaganza, but for Monaghan and Armagh fans it was a tense dramatic affair.

The players aren't entertainers there to earn their wage, they're representatives there to make their county proud. As a Monaghan man I was immensely proud that we won, but at the same time if we didn't get the equaliser after Rian O'Niells point I'd have walked away saying Armagh fully deserved their win after Rians bravery and skill in taking that score.

Like it or not Monaghan and Armagh just don't have the talent that Kerry Dublin and Mayo have, so we've to play a different brand of football. Where you guys are able to pick players to execute a more expansive gameplan and system - we've to create a system and make it work around the players we have available.

Different ways of doing things and full respect to Dublin for doing what they're doing. There's no reason cork shouldn't be at your level, but they're not because they're just not as well run as Dublin GAA.

Derry have been wild sloppy in that first half. Giving up possession time and time again. Need to up their game big time. Poor stuff from Derry.

Yup, who wants to see last minute equalisers and penalty shoot outs when you can see kerry and Dublin turn on the style against vastly inferior opposition in a one sided turkey shoot (forgive my sarcasm).
I agree with your second point tho re Donaghy. Wasn't Liam Sheedy brought into the Monaghan backroom team a few years ago no doubt at considerable expense? . For all the good he did there.
These guys are costing a fortune that could be spent training kids

I think that's a good post. I commented already on the Monaghan thread that I went to Croke park yesterday as a completely neutral hurling man.
I've no more than a passing interest in Football but really enjoyed the game.
If I was watching it on TV I probably would have switched off at half time, but being there was a completely different experience. It was tense, really closely fought and in its own way very entertaining.
Sign of a good team is you play to your strengths. Thought Armagh threatened to burn Monaghan at times but never seemed to be able to able to up a gear to maximise their possession and convert to scores.
I'm no expert but was impressed by Monaghans tenacity and teamwork.
It was a good day out and I've a better appreciation of Football after it.
