Replying To Aibrean:  "Yes, ultimately that was the position but only because "the avoidance of repeat provincial final pairings and where possible repeat pairings from Round One" became possible.

Nowhere was it written in stone that Cork and Kerry could not meet."
Where was it written that Kerry and Cork could meet in the quarter-finals?
If you saw or listened to the draw this morning, Tyrone or Monaghan was drawn first to see who would play Kerry before they proceeded with the rest of the draw.

Replying To avonali:  "Some very tasty fixtures coming up. Surely Dublin v Mayo will be held responsible on Sunday to give Mayo another days recovery. I really fear Mayo. Dublin backs could be badly exposed here."
Derry v Cork and Dublin v Mayo will be more suited for Saturday. There is the issue of a shorter turnaround for Mayo though.
Armagh v Monaghan and Kerry v Tyrone might attract bigger crowds on the Sunday. I think that will be the GAA preference but there will be pressure to have Mayo on Sunday.

I'm trying to figure out the draw this morning and was it entirely fair
Kerry could only get Monaghan or Tyrone, so they carried out a preliminary draw to see who got them, but by putting the 2 of them in a preliminary draw, did it not then limit Tyrone's chances of getting Dublin or Derry, had it been an open draw

In fairness to Mayo, they were the only team of the 8 who played last Sunday. In would be very unfair to only give them a six day turnaround (saturday game) while giving two other teams on the Sunday, 8 days to prepare and two others, two weeks to prepare. The Mayo gave has to be played on the Sunday unless you want a revolt from the Mayo camp.

Call me mad but I wouldn't be surprised if Tyrone sneak in for this AI.

Anyone know if the Semi's are following the old system & it's the turn of Lenister Vs Munster
Connacht Vs Ulster or are the Semi Finals an open draw?

You're far from mad, Tyrone are in a good place but Kerry are Kerry.

If fairness comes into it O'Donoghue should get a good rest!

The old system has been done away with. It all depends on who goes through in the quarters. Say for instance it is Derry, Armagh, Kerry and Mayo. Derry can't draw Armagh as they played in the Ulster final. Kerry can't play Mayo as they met in the group stage. So that would be an automatic draw. Derry vs Kerry and Mayo vs Armagh.

A flaw is that group winners should avoid each other first if at all possible. Not an issue in your example but let's say Armagh, Kerry, Cork and Mayo get through to the semi-finals, Armagh and Kerry as group winners should be kept apart.

How do you work that out. 2005 Armagh v Tyrone Ulster final, 2005 Armagh v Tyrone All Ireland semi final. Goes by old system for semi finals.
