Replying To Saynothing:  "A disgrace, when are umpires going to go to specsavers and get their eyes tested? Point for Cork all day long, please umpires waken up."
Hard to figure how umpire got that wrong. I think he just guessed!

Sorry CiarraiMick, 2 Munster and 1 each from the rest. Like this new format and as I couldn't make match I like this GAAGO. GAA is way ahead of other sports in Ireland.

Good man Saynothing. Ah I'm not too sure about it. I think it's a bit Irish with 3 out of 4 qualifying but I suppose it did throw up some interesting results. From now on its exciting though.

So much for Munster being "so far ahead" of Leinster. Few sore heads this evening, well done Galway.

Just leaving Cork after 9 hours in the city. Disappointed with the 1 point loss. Cork were the best opposition supporters I have come across in a long time. No major gloating and teaseing of the opposition supporters. Very respectful and chatty. Best of luck in the quarter final.
To the Roscommon players: Keep the heads up. It was very close margins as Kildare also found out today. Next year will be even better.

Ruairi Canavan will be a handful when things go right for him, great win against Donegal and when Tyrone go forward they are dangerous.

The two Canavans are class acts and if they only half as good as their Dad they will be handfuls for any team.

So that is Tyrone, Monaghan and Cork through today. Some nice quarter finals could be on offer. Derry vs Tyrone anyone???

Slagging around Tyrone about Peter being the third best player in the house. In the 70 crowds at club matches went up when Frank Mc Guigan was playing, now people go to see Errigal and the two boys, myself included.

I think for once we have 4 very even QFs, it's game on, take your pick.

Probably 2 sets of northern teams will be going down given that they are double headers.

An all Connacht All-Ireland final has gone up in smoke. The prospect of a second All Ulster All-Ireland final or a third All Munster All-Ireland final still alive for now.
Derry v Mayo/Galway, Cork or Tyrone.
Dublin v Mayo/Galway, Monaghan, Cork or Tyrone.
Kerry v Galway, Monaghan or Tyrone.
Armagh v Mayo, Monaghan or Cork.

That's a compliment to the two boys but in my eyes they won't be better than Peter. Not many will. Peter was an all time great. A legend.

Replying To omahant:  "[quote=Aibrean:  "Eamon Fitzmaurice in last Saturday's Examiner proposes:

3 players from each team must remain inside the 65 and

• The ball can not be played back over the halfway line.

I think these are sensible proposals which would work; they are simple to understand and easy to referee.
Many of the proposals being put forward are too complicated and consequently impossible to referee.
Eamon is a great student of the game and 'has been there, done that' at all levels."
"inside the 65" presumably means the attacking end to limit the blanket to 12 players, including the goal keeper? Should it be higher to prevent 'outside the 65' overcrowding?

Would my kick pass idea be too hard to ref (linesmen could assist)? It wouldn't distort the game, like the mark, for example.

Say, ANY ONE kick across 'own 45 & 65', OR 'both 65s', OR 'attacking 65 & 45'. Free out to opponents for breach on 'their 65'.

Maybe these four lines need to be painted a different colour - bright pink or yellow?"
Your proposals are far too complicated. It must be kept simple - per Fitzmaurice.
Yes, Fitzmaurice's plan would remove 6 players from the attacking side of the field - a big improvement.
Painting the lines different colours? You must be joking!"]I don't think a 'required two-line kick' is that complicated in practice. Say, a kick across 'own 45 & 65' to midfield, now the team can just hand pass their way to beyond the attacking 45 like today. The kick requirement just breaks up all the hand passing, and when playing the ball back/recycling to behind their own 45, one new kick is needed again (not too much to ask). The team would therefore need players down field to receive the 15-20 metres kick, so it weakens the blanket defence too.

This is just the opposite of ice hockey's 'icing' call -where you can't hit the puck from one end of the rink to the other.
