Replying To Aibrean:  "I agree: ALL rules should be implemented ALL the time.
Gough has form here: he correctly penalised Tyrone for hand waving in front of a Kerry free taker in Killarney a few years ago. I have seen no other ref doing this. In last year's AIF Damien Comer was waving in front of a vital David Clifford free near the end of the match; Clifford scored, but had he missed I don't think the ref would have ordered a retake. Incidentally, are the current Derry efforts to interfere with free takers illegal? I think so."
There ought to be a new rule that when David Clifford gets the ball, all the other players stand back and admire him and give homage.

Replying To Aibrean:  "Football | Denying a Goalscoring Opportunity•
• is no change to the cynical behaviour fouls. The rule change allows a Referee to award a penalty kick if the infraction is committed inside the 20m line or the semi-circle and the Referee deems it to be a goal-scoring opportunity.

• All other black cards and consequences continue as before.

• It is the decision of the Referee as to whether it is a goal-scoring opportunity or not. However, it must be inside the 20m line or the semi-circular arc. Things the referee should consider:
• Where the foul occurred
• How many defenders are between the attaching player and the goals
• Could another defender make a tackle before reaching the goals?
• How many players are in the area in front of the goals?

• If a player commits a Cynical Behaviour infraction within the 20-metre line or the semicircular arc and outside the large rectangle, and it is not a goal-scoring opportunity, the referee will deal with foul as per rule i.e. issue the card and award a free-kick.

• This is only for Senior Inter-County League & Championship 2021.

Published on 5/5/2021 on GAA website."
Does it really state that "This is only for Senior Inter-County League & Championship 2021"?

If that's the case, how can it apply on 2023?

Replying To BarneyGrant:  "Obviously. Can't afford to be missing Con that day because I can see Rossies hammering the daylights out of Kildare who will give up once they go a few points behind. Sligo probably a bit more fight in them. Dublin will be needing 3/4 goals methinks."
I'm not so sure about Roscommon hammering Kikdare and I'm not sure what Dublin team will show up v Sligo.

Well that's for sure.

Be good day anyway. Either Dublin get top spot or Kildare are gone :-)

It was used in the league between Mayo and Monaghan I'm nearly certain.

If Frank Murphy was still around Cork would be looking for a replay.

4.19 To interfere with a player taking a free kick or sideline kick by jumping up and down, waving hands, or any other physical or verbal interference considered by the referee to be aimed at distracting the player taking the kick.Exception
A player holding his hands upright shall not constitute an interference.

PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE FOULS - Free kick 13m more advantageous than the place of original kick - up to opponents' 13m line.

Quite apart from the rules it's surely unsporting to interfere with a free taker.

Of course. I meant generally. Any time he gets the ball, rather than tackle him and then concede a free.

Just heard David Gough's explanation of the Kerry penalty decision. Firstly he states the controversy arose because players are not aware of the rule and later in the same statement he says the rule is seldom implemented because players avoid committing the relevant foul because they "ARE AWARE" of the consequences of the rule? Right???

Here's hoping ST Rian gets off tonight. Would help Tyrone's chances of finishing top.

Swap Cork and Tyrone maybe, Tyrone very low and Cork very high!

Loving this new format, really great and refreshing for Donegal to get away from the confines of Provincial Football, we've already played Derry, Monaghan in the Group stage and now we're playing......er....Tyrone!!!

Enjoyed that comment, wasn't aware of Donegal's plight thus far.

Congratulations to Armagh, fair play to ye.
Hope ye go on and win more. The smile on McGeeney's face
was a rare thing. Delighted to see it.

Kildare v Monaghan
Cork v Roscommon
Donegal v Tyrone
Galway v Mayo
4 interesting battles next weekend. All 4 can go either way. Inconsistency is Kildare's main problem. Cork have had a good group stage. Donegal have recovered. Galway and Mayo were supposed to win their groups and are now looking down the barrel of elimination. People said there was no jeopardy!
