I'd hope to see Nash,Connolly,Murphy getting starts this weekend..maybe include Boylan to..I'm looking forward to seeing the attitude of Galway specially after the no show against cork..in limerick last year they really tried shoving it onto our fellas..gearoid sent off due to fierce provocation by a man who tries giving it but doesn't like getting it back..expecting a huge crowd to travel..we also need to learn a bit more about Dave mc carthy or jamie power but maybe matches against Westmeath and Wexford might be better options..be interesting to see how the match is refffed??

How many of the panel haven't had a game yet? Byrnes, Mike Casey, Gillane (assuming that he hasn't moved to Wex yet), Mark Quinlan (played vs Kerry in whatever the pre-season como is called. Anyone else?

Never agreed with ppl who considered Wexford a weaker county…until today. That was some smashing by Clare, who aren't too great a shakes themselves!

Nice win today considering they appear to be a nice bit off compared to other teams in terms of fitness. Both O'brien, and for the few mins ODalaigh was on looked good. M Houlihan close control a bit suspect a few times

Good display for the most part I thought. There were too many stoppages in play to really allow any flow to the game which may not have been coincidental. I thought Nash was excellent for first match back. Dan was very good as always
Hayes at 7 is a nightmare for opposition management. I thought he was unreal today. He gave young Fahy a schooling in the first half and some powerful runs in the 2nd producing some scores. His Crossfield passes are always on the money. DoD and WoD bossed the middle for the most part. Great to see Cian get another 60 into.him and he was drifting nicely to pick off scores. You could Tom morrissey was feeling the pressure from the extended panel. He was excellent today. Tom doesn't tend to get going for another bit usually but there's pressure being applied from that squad that all the lads know they need to produce. Casey looks sharp again and picked off a few nice scores and did some excellent defensive work. Houlihans touch was not great today but he roamed well and got on ball. That was a big game for him when a lot of pressure would have been on him and I felt he did ok. Shane o brien was well marshalled and he'll learn a lot from.today. he got 2 and should have had a 3rd if the ref allowed play on at one stage. He shows so well for the ball he just needs exposure at this level. I'd keep playing him. Flanagan for me looks like a Lad that misses Gillane on the edge of the square. I still thought he played fine. Overall it was a good exercise but the match had promised a bit more and I felt Galway weren't great today. Even when they brought in Whelan and Concannon they seemed toothless up front and bar cooney placed balls they didn't create a lot.

Thankfully, no. I was talking to a great Carlow hurling man, though, who was. Wexford were a "quare bad, shokin, horrid, di-aster" according to him.

A solid display yesterday and never looked like loosing. The competition for places this season is certainly bringing out the best in the more established players this early in the year. With Westmeath and Wexford remaining we are almost certain to make the semi final. I think JK will see this as another game to give more game time to a few more of the fringe players and get some more match practice for the likes of Casey & Lynch.

Also give game time to Mike Casey, Diarmuid Byrnes, Hannon, Coughlin, Cathal o neill Aaron Gillane. The SFs and Final of league might be very useful yet for this bunch. They will want to get more time into nash wod reidy boylan English too.

Ya I think a league sf and potential final are not the worst things in the world. Can be massive morale boost if used correctly.
The problem last year was both cork and Waterford were vulnerable psychologically. Cork had come off a horror all Ireland…the type you'd be better off losing a semifinal by a point. They roared thro the league without fixing any of the glaring defensive issues deluding themselves that high scoring and speed was all that was needed. Got carved open in league final and the match at home v Limerick came at an awful time for them….cork crowd turned on their own early and it was a bad day out.
Waterford had a good league final, a reasonable workout and 2 points v tipp….I still wouldn't have liked playing them later in the season as a Limerick man. the rumours of Cahill running the legs off them and they seemed to self destruct. Ultimately even with an average performance v Limerick they had two games to get one win and qualify. I'm not sure you can blame that on a league final win. The performance in Ennis is hard to work out. Not the fact that Clare won more the fact that Waterford were so so poor.

Likeky that Limerick n cork will escape to sf from our group. Think the more settled cork become the more dangerous they are. More games to reintroduce fitzgibbon harnedy o Mahony etc. same applies for gillane o neill coughlan boylan etc. as long as kiely doesn't ask too much of the likes of hannon and some of the lads carrying knocks.

Would be happy with a lot of what I've seen so far. Players look fresh. A lot of the established guys look to be hurling well. Long season so no good getting excited early but I like the look of the newer lads. Certainly is plenty of competition.

It could be P Casey or even ShanebO'Briem- wait till he fills out a bit- ,after all he is barely 19. Did ye see the high fielding catch the turn delicious and splendid point he scored again the wind in the wind in the second half, all in the same movement. Will the aforementioned 'free scoring forward,' get his place back at all. Maybe he might be bound for the Model County after all.

How definite is this? I've heard so many contradictory stories it's impossible to know what's going on regarding him.

"Way too early" Depth chart for me for 2023 Championship I'll give it a go.

GOALKEEPER:

Nickie Quaid

1) David Mccarthy 2) Jamie Power

FULL BACK LINE:

Sean Finn Dan Morrissey Barry Nash

1) Mike Casey 2) Richie English 3) Fergal o Connor 4) Aaron Costello 5) Jerome Boylan

HALF BACK LINE

Diarmuid Byrnes Declan Hannon Kyle Hayes

1) Colin Coughlin 2) Ronan Connolly 3) Ciaran Barry

MIDFIELD

Darragh O Donovan William o Donoghue

1) David Reidy 2) Adam English 3) Barry Murphy 4) Jimmy Quilty

HALF FORWARD LINE

Gearoid Hegarty Cian Lynch Tom Morrissey

1) Cathal O Neill 2) Adam English 3) Conor Boylan 4) Michael Houlihan 5) Aidan o Connor

FULL FORWARD LINE

Aaron Gillane Seamus Flanagan Peter Casey

1) Shane o Brien 2) Adam English 3) Darrach o Dalaigh 4) Graeme Mulcahy

That's a panel of 36 players. Obviously Adam Emglish could be tried anywhere from 8-15. Similarly i think Cathal o neill could be tried in several places and Dan Morrissey Mike Casey and Kyle Hayes could move around if injury dictated
For the most part it's a healthy panel right now and they're off for the warm weather training camp tomorrow so tactics for upcoming championship should be laid out.

Yeah I'm the same I've heard both sides saying that he is returning and others saying he is gone but all we can do is just wait and see. I think very few people know the actual facts of what actually happened and there is a huge amount of speculation and the usual ".... a friend of mine is friends with this guy who said blah blah blah..."

Everyone in Limerick and potentially the neutrals are hoping for his swift return, any county with all-ireland ambitions will be hoping not to see him. One thing that is for sure is the hurling championship as a spectacle will be worse off without the skill and fire Gillane brings on championship day. I'm hoping the rumours that he is returning to training are indeed true.
