yes, all the best to Kevin and Family.
Hopefully the stress of managing Mayo isn't at the root cause of his ill health - although I wouldn't be surprised.

I wish Kevin a full and complete recovery. Always conducts himself very well whether with the media or patrolling the sidelines.

Some crazy stuff going on all over Mayo GAA. It looks like any success on the sporting field is by accident rather than by design.
Purpose of meeting - for the board to whine to the delegates about some lad who is trying to bully them Result of the meeting - Delegates feel sympathy for the board and have a vote to tell everyone on the board how great they are and how those bullies are just bad news.
Sounds like a bunch of middle aged men patting each other on the back.
P.S. we have been storing half a dozen of the county team in a container in Dublin to they don't have to pay rent in proper accommodation. Dodgy accommodation is not related to the players in ability to play well against Kerry, Leitrim, Sligo or Cavan. Players are "free range" - stored in shed but let out to run around for an hours training - they look like county players but just not as good as a real farm reared versions.
The current board has a President, 7 chairperson, 1 deputy chair and 3 delegates who sit on other board (Connacht and central council)
That's 12 of the 24 county board members who don't actually do any work, just going to meetings, talking and voting. Most of them would spend more time going to funerals than improving how Mayo GAA is run.
Time for a full clear out, new structure and a whole new group of people who have some actual ideas and will put the shoulder to the wheel.

Is Mayo GAA badly run? Yes in some respects. We've also been terrible for years at keeping embarrassing business in house. We are the laughing stock of the country yet again….but
People can give out all they want. I dont ever see many putting names forward at my club agm for the "county delegate" position. I've heard it's the same at most clubs. If people want change they need to organize and go in. Fact is like most things in life people love to complain and moan but aren't prepared to act themselves.

I do support freedom of speech though.
No one knows if there is a queue, because the way its organized at present, sure who would want to go it there. Like most non for profit boards, there are a few that will do something and there are a good few who will turn up and do very little. The willing donkey will always be made carry more.

Replying To brayballer: "Lots of county boards are badly run but there was money going missing from Mayo too and that does nt desreve to be kept quiet. The whistle blower form USA gave Mayo county board a few hundred thousand to help players etc but most of it went elsewhere." Have we evidence of that? And believe me I'd love to see it if it exists.

Like in most, if not all counties, my own included, there are a number of different categories of supporter. The Season ticket holder and some others who may not hold season tickets but go to most league and all championship games, club games, including ones where their own team is not playing. They are interested in football, know and can name by sight most players in each team in the division that their county plays in, and all the refs too. They watch lots of football on TV and enjoy the games and are knowledgeable about football. Then there others who go to big games when the team is playing at home, they have an interest in it, might go to see their club if they got to the latter stages of the championship. Finally there are supporters who simply want to support their county and attend many games including away games in order to do so. They have no interest in football per say but want their team to win and cheer them wholeheartedly. Flags, hats and headbands, and the dreaded bugles, the up to the minute kit etc. The know the top players on the team. While all counties have their share of the latter, Mayo seem to have a much higher proportion of these supporters. Probably as a result of the team reaching such heights over the past 15 years or so. A team that was a match for any and were unfortunate to be at their peak at the same time at the best best team of all time. Then there is the huge diaspora support around the world, the never ending quest since '51, the curse and the slogan Mayo for Sam. They are the only team who, while having not won it in 74 years, are still in with a chance at the start of every season since 2004. Will this be our year? This situation results in very big pressure on the players and management every year. The 3rd category of supporter I believe, is a bit naive, in the sense that they do not seem to realise that replacing retired players of the stature, of Clarke, Barrett, Higgins, Keegan, Boyle, Cillian, and Moran, with players of equal ability, is all but impossible, for any county. It has been reported by a top Mayo sports journalist that the abuse directed at players and management during the closing stages of the Cavan game was off the charts. I believe it is almost certain this would only have come from category 3 supporters. The fact the game was so poorly attended, reflects knowledgeable supporters low expectations for the team in 2025. I hope Kevin makes a full and total recovery .
