its up to manager to build the rapport with players. having an inbetweener person like you are suggesting is dangerous. you will find that person will talk out of both sides of their mouth. bash the players to management and vice versa

Emyvale must be the biggest flops in Monaghan football. The talent in that group and they constantly underperform MonaghanMan44life (Monaghan) - Posts: 300 - 12/10/2026 12:39:12 2696988 Link 0 |

Paul O'Connor is over the 20s and staying with them I believe. He needs new additions to his backroom team as this age group will need a lot of work. Andy Callan would be a great addition to the Senior setup. He has a seriously impressive CV built up over the past 10 years. Took Killanny from junior to senior in consecutive seasons, coached Crossmaglen to their last championship and he has twice turned Carrick from an average Intermediate team to competing at the top end of senior. They would be in the senior final this Sunday if they had their shooting boots on versus Truagh.

Not really no that's the way m orourke worked it as he had eoin lennon as his go between and it works well and doesn't allow certain players to get to close with the top man good management set ups favour this way

Was at the Cremartin Maghercloone game and young Kieran's and the Cremartin goalkeeper clashed going for a 50:50 and has lost teeth apparently, wasn't wearing a gum shield the referee cud be heard saying warning both teams to put one in, surely every player must be wearing a gum shield in games there's no excuse for it, your not covered by insurance otherwise Farneylad275849 (Monaghan) - Posts: 7 - 12/10/2026 13:41:05 2697007 Link 0 |

I think it's a very good appointment. He's been around Monaghan football long enough he knows players inside out from managing against them. Farneyarmy2013 (Monaghan) - Posts: 88 - 12/10/2026 13:46:14 2697008 Link 0 |

I think you would be looking at around 50% are wearing them. This will increase as the years go on as juvenile's now have grown up wearing them. You often see subs running on now with it in there mouth and then placing it in there sock. In regards the lost teeth at the weekend due to not wearing one - Play sill games, win silly prizes! younggun08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 51 - 12/10/2026 14:23:51 2697015 Link 0 |

im going to stay optimistic with the management appointment and the backroom team. I probably wanted a "big name" myself but an all ireland champion with decent experience is a big name in my book. the backroom team in Darren Hughes has a well respected home grown man and Tony & Niall bring their own relevant experience without being one of these so called expert journeymen going from team to team in pursuit of money - hopefully a fresh perspective and a nice balance of local knowledge, new faces and zero politics...onwards and upwards MalsBalls (Monaghan) - Posts: 302 - 12/10/2026 14:50:23 2697020 Link 0 |

Fantastic appointments. Well thought. All areas covered. Great move having Darreni n. He epitomises Monaghan football. Have 15 lads on the field with Darren's attitude and we are going a long way. Good work by the selection committee. Has the stamp of the 2 ex players involved on it. Exciting times ahead.

I get your point, but maybe better not to post the name of the lad involved? You cannot definitively say either that a referee warning players to use gumshields proves the lad himself wasn't wearing one.

Agreed. I think its a brave and forward looking appointment by the county board, the alternative would have been an 'easy out' option. To be fair to GB, his team played highly entertaining football and were full of courage but perhaps not enough guile. Some big decisions on personnel had damaging impacts in key games. The priorities for the new management team are clear - build some capacity in midfield, get the high quality non-playing forwards back in the fold, and find a mentality that delivers when playing at the other end of the N2. He was at Clones v Ballybay. Currin v Aghabog was a poor Junior semi final. A lot of mistakes from both sides. Aghabog had a bit more bite in fairness and probably deserved to win. Neither side fit for Intermediate grade.Nor are Toome.
