Yet another year of currin falling short in junior. Wonder what is going on there? . Big statement from aghabog beating Blackhill by 13 points.

Replying To HB245:  "McBennett the only one worth mentioning here. That's a debate, I'll give you that. Leonard never fit so that's null and void. Beggan was in the panel for a couple of years and couldn't cut it. Connolly was given a shot this year and clearly not at that standard. Hanratty from Castleblayney simply not even close to that level, although still young so I suppose he could develop. Mick McCarville would look like an all-star playing intermediate football. Hes been the best midfielder in the senior championship for 2 or 3 years now whilst some of those lads you mentioned are often found struggling in intermediate league games."
The problem I see here is to know mc carville is the best midfield at senior club level the past 3 years you'd have to be at a heck of a lot of senior club games and to then say lads struggle in many games divisions down you'd also have to be at a lot of junior / intermediate games too, either you have the ability to be in multiple places at once or your judging players on bite sizes, if the small sample size you have of a player happens to be on an off day then your automatically going to think hrs no good.

I attend a lot of games in all grades and McCarville is the best available to Monaghan on the past few years form. Hopefully over the coming years true midfielders will come through from our excellent underage structure.

All these midfielders/missing club men are very elusive. 3 managers in 4 years and all seem baffled.

I think McCarville being unfairly targeted here. He has had a good year. Like the rest of the team bar beggan and probably o hanlon he just seemed to hit the wall in that second half when donegal got on top. Its funny looking back at the game now dust has settled. Pretty obvious we didn't manage to make enough hay when the sun was shining in first half players missed some relatively easy chances shoukd been 10-15 points up at h/t. Donegal were always going to come at us and dominate the 3rd quarter. The new rules make a 7 pt lead effectively a 3 pt lead under old rules and there are huge momentum swings in games now which are hard to retrieve. If we'd got a bigger lead we wouldn't panicked as much as we did in that 4th quarter as wed still been in front the beggan pt hitting the post was a massive moment as woukd have steadied a ship taking on msssive amounts of vwater. Once donegal got level abd went in front the game was over as monaghan players just hit wall had bad luck with key injuries but effectively heads went as their attacking system which had been so good all year lost its shape entirely. That's the real disappointment looking back. We buckled at the very worst time. That has happened a lot to monaghan over the years in big games inherent problem in the side. That all said it has been a v good year no denying that noone would have expected monaghan to have year we have had. However make no mistake football is changing and traditional powers are coming back with new rules meath have shown that. Id expect kildare cork down derry to all be in mix next year so no guarantees monaghan will be back next year to where they got themselves to this year. Hopefully club season will unearth some new talent in the county to strengthen the panel and a few lads who walked this year for various reasons come back in as we will need them all next year.
