Certainly no surprise that he's giving football a go, it's not a secret that Niall and Kevin would have had an awkward relationship on the club front in the past, Kevin seems to have put the emphasis on younger, newer players as its clearly a 3-4 year project. Very hard to see us getting promotion with Laois surely hot favourites to win 2A, being competitive in that division would be a good start.

Awful news coming out of Southern Gaels this morning about pitch development. Plans for their own grounds that included clubhouse and two full size pitches (One being a 5G pitch) was approved by Westmeath County Council but after an objection Bord na bPleanála have deemed the application unsuccessful.

This is a real dark day for Hurling in Athlone and in Westmeath. Its also a bad day for GAA as even other codes like Footbal would have got use of the 5G pitch.

Rumors the reasons it was unsuccessful was because of the grounds being too far away from their current grounds but they don't have any grounds. They play out of Athlone GAA and its known for years that Athlone GAA want the Gales out of their grounds so what's their options now?

An appeal process along with additional submissions and contact the local TD's and Councillors etc for support. Bog standard stuff. They'll get there though probably with some adjustments
