Traces of white smoke seen in Scarden this morning. NewSligofan (Sligo) - Posts: 261 - 21/07/2025 11:43:22 2626831 Link 0 |
Worrying times for Tourlestrane based on the League Final performance. Problems all over the pitch. Will management have enough time in 2 weeks to rectify things. A few commentators on here mentioned the positives of having a passionate homegrown management team but if they don't know what their doing there are not many positives in that. Many players have regressed over the last few years even some of the younger lads who should be stepping up. It looks as if avoid relegation will be the ambition for the rest of the season. Don't leave us in suspense.......

It's not like you Anto to be so pessimistic. When it comes to Tourlestrane you are normally a glass half full. There is talk of Liam Gaughan making a return. Good player but I have no idea how much ball he has kicked since he left these shores. It will definitely be at a much lower level. There's no championship in years but you won't be relegated. The manager can only coach, train and play the players in front of him

Championship starts in less than 2 weeks, looks very open with most teams not showing their hand throughout the league. muscles (Sligo) - Posts: 486 - 21/07/2025 18:03:06 2626984 Link 0 |
This weekend was the 50 year anniversary for the 1975 Connacht Champions. A good tribute by Adrian Eames interviewing our greatest player Mickey Kearins. I grew up on hearing stories of Kearins great feats. 75 was past his peak. There is footage of him in the 60s from tallowman on youtube and you could see his class. His energy and conviction in his shot. His presence overpowered defenders. He scored 36-1158 over 215 games for Sligo. One of the things that would annoy me and you see it still exists somewhat today, he was asked about his all star in 1971 and he mentioned he was top scorer in the country in 1972 and was down to get another allstar but didn't. The back story is someone in Sligo County Board contacted Croke park to tell them Kearins got sent off in a challenge game and the rules back then were if you were sent off you were ineligible for all star, its not even known if he actually was sent off. Its very sad that someone in Sligo would go out of their way to deny one of own another Allstar. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1890 - 21/07/2025 19:14:37 2626993 Link 0 |
What if they do it on a reduced rate because its Sligo. Its people like you that hold Sligo back and keep us small. Is my suggestion not a positive? Hopefully the county board are more ambitious. We need the best people involved and with the right people in charge I believe they are attainable.

Scarden must be burned at this stage. Smoke there 24 hours ago. Was it a man in the stand that was telling you ?

No it's people like you who are unrealistic with no consideration as to how things work in the real world when it comes to costs and expectations. Sligo will never have the budget to compete for these PROFESSIONALS who work with teams who can pay a professional rate for their services. We had another Sligoman involved in Dublin a few years ago as a nutritionist, ask any club who tried to get him down to Sligo and you'll soon find out that the "mates rates" for Sligo doesn't apply when you're in business. If you think that these people will do their home county a significant favour when other counties which huge financial backing (just look at who sponsors Tipp & Limerick), are willing to pay for them then you're for the birds. The GAA is not like a fantasy football team where ya can get the best manager, coach, S&C, physio, doctor, psychologist, nutritionist etc. without considering the cost. There isn't an unlimited pot of gold in Sligo GAA or within the clubs who all of this is always passed off to anyway if there is an increase in costs. If it were a psychologist or manager/S&C I know which one I'd be spending the money on! Perhaps you'll front up the bill for him if you think he'll do the job? Interviews were held over the weekend. It is a 2 horse race. Horse 1 impressed most. It looked like he was the chosen one and he was to be given the nod yesterday. But we all know Sligo GAA doesn't work like that. Horse 2 is wanted more by certain people at the top table and they are trying to tweak his backroom team so he can get it. Don't be surprised if one of the horses pull out over the next 48 hours. NewSligofan (Sligo) - Posts: 261 - 22/07/2025 10:59:08 2627063 Link 0 |
Have to agree here, no one is saying we shouldn't strive for the best but we have a lot of things to get right before you go after a Caroline Currid or cathal sheridan. These are nice but not essentials for a county like sligo. Get the basics right and find a few new players first before we go after psychologists and performance coaches. Also as said above these will be in high demand with teams/athletes looking to win an all ireland or succeed in other sports.

I assume both horses were reared in the same paddock (Sligo). Im assuming horse 1 did 3 years with the U.20 and then bizarrely enough gave him the reins for year 4 but also ratified horse 2 for the following year. We all know what happened. Horse 1 won Connacht and had to step aside. Horse 2 did very well. If both are neck and neck jumping the last fence and going down the home straight, its not a good omen. If one of them pulls up lame (as has been predicted) he might never run again .. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2180 - 22/07/2025 12:11:56 2627095 Link 0 |

A very good, knowledgeable and articulate reply as always from Sligoman1234. I enjoy reading your views although I don't always agree with you but that's no harm. This time you are spot on.
