Fair enough, small enough catchment area I suppose.

How has Rathvillys hurling developments been going since their acquisition of the Hurling starter kit they recieved?

But again my point is that the county is overwhelming in favour of football numbers than hurling. Borris and St Mullins catchment areas are around 2k or so combined? Add I myshall that's primarily hurling and you have maybe 3k? Bagenalstown are decent dual as well.

Tullow has twice that and don't have a hurling team. Either do rathvilly or hacketstown. Carlow town has over 10 times this and hurling numbers are much smaller than football clubs. Burren rangers and Naomh Brid have decent areas to pull from and football clubs probably all still have more than both hurling clubs.

So going back to say our gaa numbers are probably 80% football, it's not a slight against the hurlers who punch above given the numbers but the footballers aren't being dragged away by them from hurling massively."
It's not 80% football, it's 67% football vs 33% hurling at adult level. We have the numbers. 42 football teams and 21 hurling.

Yes and nearly all hurlers play football but very few footballers play hurling.

They just don't have the players for senior standard. Their inter side seems handy. Two or three players in with the county is it? Not competing at minor either are they? Not sure if it's just the hurling side since the dropped down to junior in football too.

We've come a long way from when Turlough was on The Sunday Game pleading that we be allowed a 2nd chance in the championship prob, as I the old system remain. Wow, standards have plummeted since he left the management role. Currently we don't even treat the 1st chance with respect!

Congratulations to Wicklow on a brilliant win today. Just goes to show what can be achieved when everyone is pulling together. We beat Wicklow earlier in the league & I didn't think they were great but since the league they have steadied the ship & had a right craic at Leinster ( should have beaten the Dubs after hammering us) & have now won the Tailteann Cup.
Some turn around for a team who didn't even make the Div 4 final.
Imagine if we actually gave the Championship & the Tailteann a go instead of being happy with our league win. We never raised a gallop after beating Longford in Croker which is so disappointing.
Anyway massive congrats to our neighbours & I'm sure they will enjoy the celebrations

Fantastic for Wicklow and hats off to them. But you're not comparing like with like. They had a point to prove after their league campaign went so cruelly wrong.

Our lads were coming down off the euphoria of winning the league.

Sorry not buying that. I never said we had to actually win Leinster or the Tailteann but at least have a go. We should have been on a high after our brilliant league success but that showing against Wicklow in Dr Cullen was embarrassing. It's like we didn't care.
We them concede 6 goals to Antrim & are out classed by Leitrim. All 3 above teams are in Div 4 next season.
Players leaving the panel between league & Championship also not a good look. I'd be worried for us next season considering the quality in Div 3.
Survival in Div 3 & a good rattle in Leinster & then the Tailteann would be acceptable but I'm not sure.

Great win for the Carlow ladies yesterday. Unbeaten all year, hopefully they can take that final step now. Great bunch of players, hopefully a good crowd goes up to support them in 3 weeks time

I think we do have the quality to compete in division 3 and stay up. It will be tough but we're more than capable of doing it.

I was willing to let the Wicklow showing slide a bit given it came too soon after the league win and Wicklow had a point to prove. The Antrim and Leitrim games are different stories and maybe the year looks a lot cleaner if we had beaten Antrim, tough to know. What's annoying is how the panel apparently checked out after the league win and some lads dropped off. Wicklow have pushed on progressively each year and deservedly winners of the TC. You don't just get a winning mentality overnight, needs to be sustained progression.

The overall attitude fairly represents the club's mentality, who outside of EO in football, always seem happy to win a county title and not put much effort into Leinster. Complete opposite to the hurling clubs who always seem competitive. Only EO and Pal have one a match since EO made the final and both times thumped in the second match. Much deeper rooted problems unfortunately

The lads went on the beer for a week after winning the league and essentially didn't prepare at all for Leinster. And who can blame them? It's not like Carlow regularly win trophies in Croke Park.

They then regrouped for the Tailteann, were missing Ruth, Hulton, Bambrick and Byrne, and went to extra time against Antrim, who subsequently lost to Wicklow by a point. The margins are tiny. If we'd had one of those four, we'd probably have beaten Antrim and the season would look totally different.

Also, only two players left the panel after the league. Both older players (and crucially farmers) who weren't getting game time and probably decided their time would be better spent on the land. Personally I thought one of them got a raw deal from management, but I also understand management's POV, even if I don't agree with it.

I really don't get all this doom and gloom. Assuming Murphy can find a couple of midfielders over the summer and autumn, we are well capable of having a great 2027. The age profile of the squad is good and as Wicklow have shown, the Division Three teams are not any better really than the top Division Four teams. Especially under the new rules.
