What would Carlow Town benefit out of this? They have are on an upwards trajectory with constant underage teams in county finals and in div 1. They have numerous players from Palatine, Éire Óg and Asca. How would Eire og going dual make any sense if only a couple of players from Eire og have an interest in hurling?

How would that work when Carlow town is on an upwards trajectory? There underage teams are constantly in div 1 and reaching county finals and their U21s are in the A final after defeating a good Myshall side. There is no way they would want to amalgamate with o hanrahans when their own club is progressing so well

Yes, that is what I have been told. re: the genuine personal reasons.

They should be a senior club in the next few years. Obviously the successful underage teams feed into the adult teams.

Going back five or six decades, Carlow Town's problem has always been player retention. They won five minors in six years in the 1980s and all that underage success ielded ONE senior title. And even that was buttressed by a number of players from other counties who had come to work in Carlow. The last time they reached a county final (in the late 1990s), I think half the team were of non Carlow origin. Carlow Town has frequently had successful underage teams, but it has never translated to senior... because there are too many rival football clubs involved. Hence my point that the town would be better off with two dual clubs. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 982 - 17/11/2025 13:00:32 2645015 Link 0 |

Looks like Pat Bennett is going to be the new senior hurling manager. Hopefully he'll be a success in the job following on from Tom Mullally. Unusedsub (Carlow) - Posts: 137 - 20/11/2025 09:19:42 2645383 Link 0 |

I wish Mr Bennett the best of luck. From what I'm hearing on the grapevine, he's going to need it.

Is what you are hearing on the grapevine related to some players being encouraged to play county football next year? I know you've said Tom Mullally leaving relates to a personal issue, if that's truly the case fair enough no one needs to know any more, but there are suggestions next year's football panel might be stronger than usual at the expense of the hurling panel. I don't know if that's connected to Tom Mullally leaving but you say it's personal reasons then that's fair enough but people have put 2 + 2 together ... Pat Bennett seems a good appointment though and good luck to him. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1699 - 21/11/2025 11:04:37 2645521 Link 0 |

I have only heard that the footballers have approached some hurling panel members from 2025. The bigger issue is potential retirements. Which, of course, could encourage some others to drop away. Or move to football. It's hardly a secret on here that I like hurling, but I am realistic enough to understand why some guys might find the bigger ball attractive in the present circumstances. And why some others might have decided to give it up altogether. The commitment is truly staggering these days. We barely trained at all, compared to what it involves now. Has there been any confirmation that he is leaving Naas? When is the county board audit that the GAA have ordered on all counties? Hardly related? Just asking questions…

Whether or not he leaves Naas will tell us a lot. I was initially told he was leaving both Carlow and Naas, due to personal reasons. Since then have heard a different version.
