I think we need to make peace with the fact that Michael won't be back and be thankful for all that he gave us. Anyway, I agree that Gallen is special and hopefully stays fit but I also look forward to Jim getting the best out of all our players and finding tactical innovations to be creative and cohesive going forward. Not simply hand passing laterally with the feint hope of a Thompson or Langan Hail Mary point. For all we can say about the O'Rourke era, he did at least show we can attack and score well if encouraged to do so. By all accounts Murphy went through the ringer to play for his county as long as he had, and so has Paddy McBrearty. You don't have to look too far to see what damage being double and treble-marked for 20 years can do to the body. He will carry the scars, but is likely counting his blessings he didn't come out the other end worse-off considering the punishment he took. I agree and as I said previously the man is living legend as we all know for what he done for this county and his club and he has more to offer the club still as well as hopefully in a long career in management. It's just wishful thinking on my part I suppose, as the other poster above said he has had tough road for the county, I don't know how he held the head all the times he was being ragged and fouled by stoppers who still couldn't stop him. Anyway draw a line under it and on we go, is there many heading to this Roscommon game to open the new pitch in Ballyshannon? Jim's first game back in charge on the 17th I think. Hopefully we'll have an Ulster c ship at the end of this year and a few days out in croker. What people don't realise is that I travel everywhere to watch a county game and please god will continue to do so this year. Look at the team that finished bottom of division 3 this year and consider their discipline record over the last number of years. Same goes for the team that finished second bottom. I've heard a few myself from Glenties and Glenswilly. If we aren't pushing for promotion we are in danger of not being in the All Ireland Series And the team is in bad need of a winning run to get the confidence flowing. Then do the same for your own club for 2023 and we can do a comparative. Making a blanket statement about "over the years" is not a debate, lay out your facts. I don't know the story in relation to the bottom placed team but in relation to my club the playing group is so young that they weren't involved years ago so let's go on what the current position is. It's an anonymous forum, not a political election. Bonner was appreciated for his achievements from the vast majority of Donegal supporters including myself, who were at pains to say this, but you wanted zero critique of his tenure. Anything bordering on unhappiness with the general direction of the team was called 'abuse' by you. Which is nonsense. Bonner did well but his tenure petered out tamely enough, that's life. But call things as they are. We can agree then so that we want Donegal to be successful under Jim. Hopefully a good few years await one step at a time. Most I know don't bother going to club matches any more as they are a "bore fest" (Their words). I also think a big reason is that you can buy county match tickets now on-line rather than needing to be a club member. Difficult to know for sure but likely Covid and the lock downs from March 2020 onwards played some part. Some people are really only members of their club in order to be able to get tickets for the big all ticket inter-county matches. When spectators were not permitted at games for some there was little reason to be members. Why they haven't come back to their clubs is the question.
