Was Aughavas, Aughnasheelin and Drumreilly not relegated from intermediate last year and Bornacoola won junior A so they be the only team to go up from Junior A which would make Intermediate a 8 team championship this year, looking like Junior A be a 10 team Championship, and likely to be a competitive one this year. I think the plan should be to have 3 top divisions as 8 teams in each and junior B & C could be 10 and 9 team championships as the numbers odd as it stands.

3 teams were relegated from Intermediate but they were replaced by the 3 teams who were relegated from Senior. 2026 will have 8 teams in Senior and Intermediate with one team promoted and one team relegated. Junior has 10 teams. Im not sure if Junior will reduce to 8 teams for the 2027 season. Senior Mohill, Ballinamore, Fenagh, St Mary's, Leitrim Gaels, Aughawillian, Manor, Melvin Gaels Intermediate Annaduff Gortletteragh Dromahair Allen Gaels, Drumkeeran, Carrigallen, Kiltubrid, St Mary's B Ballinaglera, Bornacoola. Junior A Aughavas, Aughnasheelin, Drumreilly, Eslin, Cloone, Glenfarne, Manor B, Annaduff B, Melvin Gaels B, Mohill B. Leitrim2024 (Leitrim) - Posts: 68 - 02/07/2025 12:08:21 2623109 Link 2 |
There shouldn't be second teams competing against first teams in the intermediate or junior championship. boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 431 - 03/07/2025 10:53:36 2623359 Link 0 |
We need more competitive teams in the championships not less…

Senior is basically a shoot out between Mohill, Ballinamore, Fenagh and St. Marys.

If a first team aren't good enough to beat a second string team on merit, why punish the second string team? What counties don't allow second string teams to compete against clubs first teams? Clubs too weak to compete with second string teams should be begging for regional teams at the county board convention every year until some version of it passes. Strong clubs having strong second teams is not a bad thing. Just need to make sure players being seeded is managed correctly (make sure players missing first rounds don't play down levels etc, which I think they introduced a rule to stop) premiumrashers (Leitrim) - Posts: 52 - 03/07/2025 16:05:41 2623467 Link 1 |
It devalues a competition if there are 7 first teams and the obviously larger pick club with a second team wins the championship.

tell me you are from a nothing club without telling me you are from a nothing club. The odds of a 2nd string team winning a junior or intermediate title will be very very low with 8 team championships coming in across the board, also any 2nd team player that plays a knockout game for 1st team is automatically ineligible for the 2nd team thereafter, further making it difficult to compete at the business end. i see no reason to keep messing with the structures, what we have will bear fruit in a few years gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 648 - 04/07/2025 12:44:43 2623584 Link 1 |
I have a feeling Glenfarne and aughnasheelin could be a cracker. bláthach (Leitrim) - Posts: 169 - 04/07/2025 13:02:32 2623593 Link 0 |
I don't know what you mean by a nothing club. There's no club in Leitrim really like Real Madrid now is there? Bit of a silly statement

If a second team can win the championship they are competing in they more than deserve it. its always good to see second teams beating first teams, no better feeling for them players.

I don't think so for me

But if they win the same championship over and over they're clearly too strong for that grade, and with no progression the players will lose interest. The reserve leagues are grand, but there's walkovers in every division and no one remembers who wins them.

You're falling into the trap of engaging with a person or persons who are just here to wind up (albeit, they're probably the same individual). They're looking for attention. Your logic is obviously sound with regard to the various championships. The more ruthless the better as far as I'm concerned. Vested interests have been pandered to for the past 20 years and the end result is a dilution of quality. Trying to protect the status of clubs has had the opposite effect. By the look of the league table in D2 Allen Gaels have recovered from the Intermediate implosion from last year top with maximum pts, but what has gone wrong in Carrigallen? Intermediate Semi last yr after coming up from Junior but seems to have fallen apart going by the League table and I notice Martin Dunne left after only one year in charge to go back to manage in Cavan.
