It's all a strange one now. My bet is it will be O'Hara and I don't think that would be a bad appointment at all. I've said it here before but dare I say is Rory Gallagher worth a call? Sometimes in life you have to make a brave call and listen to thunder for a while before it calms down and then you end up with one of the best managers in the game. Also on Aiden Rooney I think he is the current Sligo minor manager and I also think he isn't at senior intercounty level. He managed St Mary's in Sligo and dipped into the transfer market for players he brought in mulligan and a couple of others but made no headway. lugdrum (Leitrim) - Posts: 357 - 09/10/2024 15:58:37 2573919 Link 0 |
Not for all the tea in China is RG worth a call. He can come out with all the statements he likes but I'll tell you one thing, I'll be staying at home it ever happened. Horan probably has his eye on Galway or Roscommon so I would be shocked if he could be convinced.

Oscar Wilde's quote, "To lose one parent may be regarded as a misfortune. To lose both looks like carelessness," (The Importance of Being Earnest) comes to mind. What will they do now for a coach? With the short timeframe involved, they might have no better to do than to just go with a Leitrim native, not an outsider. And it might be a bad thing, all considered. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2101 - 09/10/2024 16:43:13 2573936 Link 0 |
A few interesting names here but some unusual ones all the same. I don't think the five time world champion Raymond Van Barneveld will give up his magnificent darts career for the Leitrim job. But in all seriousness, the names that I would consider would be Nevin O Donnell (NOD) and Emilyn Mulligan ( Mugsy) for the brilliant job they did with Fenagh ushering the massive underdogs deep into the Fenagh cup. They could even have a player manager role. This would be excellent as we wouldn't really need to spend a penny on management. Alan Flynn would also be a serious candidate for the magnificent fluent football he plays with Kiltoghert. His record with them speaks for itself really. My only concern is that he might fill the panel with talented players from his previous club, though I can't say I'd blame him for doing so!!! leitrimfan123 (Leitrim) - Posts: 20 - 09/10/2024 17:46:25 2573944 Link 0 |
I'm not sure if any Mohill lads are on here but I am curious what ye think of O Hara? I know he is an excellent motivator and organised but just wondering what the consensus is. Sligonian (Sligo) - Posts: 1728 - 09/10/2024 18:03:25 2573947 Link 0 |
Very disappointing to hear about Mickey Graham, next appointment is an important one. lecture250 (Leitrim) - Posts: 133 - 09/10/2024 18:19:50 2573950 Link 0 |
2 contradictory or confusing sentences there. "Bornacoola wont be able to stop Conor Beirne so for that reason I am going for the boors by 3" - that statement makes no sense "Allen Gaels v Melvin Gaels. Wont be as good as the junior final. I can see a boring game here. Gaels to win by 3." - which Gaels ??? MylesNaGopaleen (Leitrim) - Posts: 33 - 09/10/2024 19:54:44 2573961 Link 0 |
Think the tried and tested solution of Coach Guckian is needed

Padraig Davis will not be coaching county in the foreseeable future. Has his own business and young family. He hasn't even shown any interest in club management the last 2 or 3 years. Frank74 (Longford) - Posts: 198 - 09/10/2024 21:04:55 2573966 Link 0 |
Kevin Walsh as a poster above suggested could be a great shout. Managed Sligo, Galway and now coaching cork and has an improvement in them last season. Hasn't a big ego and wouldn't he phased by the Leitrim job although maybe he is happier as a coach than manager. While we are in the county of Galway John Divley is highly regarded in the coaching circles also. lugdrum (Leitrim) - Posts: 357 - 09/10/2024 22:45:09 2573970 Link 0 |

No way Horan would go to either.

Serious question, apart from leitrim minors and u21s has he been with any team since leitrim senior job? And has he ever won anything as manager? sparkie (Leitrim) - Posts: 72 - 10/10/2024 00:03:41 2573986 Link 0 |
Nobody seems to know Why Mickey Graham left. I see lists and names of potential managers posted up here and tbh within context Mickey is (was now) by far the best candidate. Has spent a year within hes local and he's a proven manager with the type of credentials Leitrim need. Gallagher, Bonner, Horan, Darcy etc. wouldn't even consider the Leitrim job. At this stage it's time lower the expectation levels and install a mgmt team from within. The problem nowadays is that players are so used to these high profile managers that swoop in and out and bring all the hype and buzz but dissappear just as quickly. So will they buy into a homegrown mgmt setup?? They are going to have to!! We've dug a massive hole for ourselves with the paid manager Inatfullforward (Longford) - Posts: 109 - 10/10/2024 00:06:53 2573987 Link 0 |

Not sure what games your watching because Carrick don't play fluent football. Boring lateral, hand passing football. Don't kick the ball into their forward line.. you'd be delighted to be a back against them because they have a lot of talented forward but are redundant with the way he has made them play. With the group of players they had if they had a better manager they would have won more. One of the last man I would put in charge of Leitrim.
