Hard to know but we will find out very quickly. Mark is highly rated by anyone who has spoke about him and it's very early days. We will need our senior players like smith and murtagh to step up and lead the way this year. They need to be consistent this year

Not sure about the Roscommon Gaels comparison. They had some injuries in key areas, and other players opting out. They certainly hit a wall in the 2nd half of the Quarter final against Brigids. The year before under him Roscommon Gaels reached the final and were competitive against Pearses, also he was the head coach on the Strokestown team the won the county title against the odds. Dowd has a few different people alongside him at Roscommon than he had at the Gaels. Iain Daly on the defensive side of things and as Glaveys manager last summer he came up with a plan to restrict Brigids to a low score and beat them (come Sunday it will hopefully be Brigids only defeat) The task of Improving our forward play will be surely be given to Jason Sherlock and he was part of the Dublin dominant team who had arguably the best shooting efficiency the game has ever seen. Even getting our shooting efficiency up to 55 to 69% consistency would bring big progress for the year ahead but last showed a mountain of work is needed behind the scenes The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4235 - 13/01/2026 14:54:39 2650942 Link 0 |

It was just worrying how disjointed they were and looked like a team that only went back training last week and were just thrown together for that game. I don't see us getting within 10 points of Kerry tbh I just hope it's not 17/18 points and that's being honest. We are without to many players and enda won't be up to speed either.

I for one was concerned watching the game Sunday but we need to step back a bit and realise it was only an FBD league game. You cannot judge any team on a pre season competition. I also believe that Mark Dowd had 3 training sessions the morning of the game so no doubt quite a few of those lads that played took some part in those sessions. I think its way too early to panic. Even for the Kerry game it will probably not be a fair reflection of the team as the Brigids contingent will not be back. Is there any truth to the rumour that Brian Stack is taking a break from the county panel and if so for how long? Ros Comáin abú

You can say ye were weak and ok yes you were and only fbd. But our same young ones who beat ye also won well v DCU and you can't say DCU were weak. We have lots of guys coming up who can score . And we are working on 2 pointers like what we saw from our mayo guys last night who got great 2 pointers v DCU. In saying that ye will be much stronger in connacht but Andy is turning things around for us . S1234 (Mayo) - Posts: 651 - 14/01/2026 17:21:36 2651074 Link 0 |

Lol you were saying ye were weak v us in fbd abd that's the only reason we got all those 2 pointers. But the same mayo guys playing for UL got some class 2 pointers and you can't say DCU were weak . We have been working on 2 pointers

take a day off, the two pointers ye got were aided by a strong wind and our lads were dead on their feet for most of the game

I don't think anyone was saying that was the only reason Mayo won. It certainly was a contributory factor but credit to Mayo who were excellent and really dominated from start to finish. My point was purely from a Ros perspective and that is it is far too early to make any assumptions on any team at this stage of the season. Also from what I hear Roscommon players had taken part in a training session earlier that morning which no doubt contributed to their poor display. Mayo in contrast were full of energy and aggression in the tackle. Their point scoring was excellent too in the second half. No complaints from me on that.
