Strokestown mounted 2 great comebacks but that feckin 4th goal against the run of play killed them. They can now rest and then prepare for their real Championship. Interesting to see so few players from North of the county involved today. If I'm correct there is only 7 players in the squad from the North. Considering all the St Brigids players are still to come back the future doesn't look too bright for the northern counties. Good day all round for the Roscommon football I'll start off by giving my congratulations to Brigids. A few nervy moments in the final 15 minutes but the better more skillful and controlled team certainly won that match. In a match that Ben O'Carroll was well marked 21 year old Bobby Nugent really stood up with 0-7. R Fallon,P McGrath were very good once again. Excellent finished on the goal by Brian Derwin. A lot of the talk before the game was Scotstown ability to score two pointers and Beggan mainly scoring them but he held to a point and Scotstown to 1 two pointer. A special mention to Trundle for that Excellent save late on. Best of luck to them in the final so close to winning the All-Ireland in 2024 will hopefully go one better in two weeks. As for FBD all too easy for Roscommon with the game as a contest over midway through the 1st half. What's that noise? Veteran something from Monaghan closing the door on the way out of the Roscommon forum. Some great defensive contributions today. Trundles block and I have to say Ryan O Toole has it all. The better team Won though and when the legs are gone in the heat of battle you'll have poor decision making. Brigids more or less nullified Beggan too as we all predicted. Haven't seen the Dingle semi final yet? Will o Connor be allowed play? They won't win without him. They could win without him and they could lose with him. He was good at time yesterday but was anonymous for good chunks of the game too. There are no guarantees. Brigid's we're excellent today and I hope they can finish the job. They play a lovely brand of football. As do An Daingean. It should be a great game. I don't think Brigids have played anywhere near their full potential all year but I think tactically and defensively they have been good which as a Roscommon man you couldn't exactly say was a hall mark of Brigids. If anything it was a big weakness. They always have had good footballers. Had big leads v Glen and last year v Pearse's and lost both games. They seem to always be able to shut down the opposition best players Carey,Regan,Connelly,Beggan and not conceding much However I think they need big work on the kickouts and attack to get the most from Ben and co rossie4sam (Roscommon) - Posts: 49 - 07/01/2026 10:02:35 2650133 Link
I think the big winner of the weekend was another Kiltoom Man Ian Monaghan. He took his whistle to Charlestown and refereed his fist senior inter county match in the Mayo Sligo game and had an outstanding game. Then up he went whistle in hand and took charge of AIT vs Kerry IT in the Sigerson last night and again played a stormer. Great result for st Brigids, they showed great resilience against a tough and physically strong Scotstoun team. Agree that the kick outs need alot of work especially last ten minutes. Hopefully they will get the job done against a never say due dingle team. I noticed niall mcinerney is back on the st brigids panel after a few years absence.
