Sadly Dave I have to agree with you on all points. Whatever ability a set of players may or may not have you expect a management to make a unit out of them, game plan etc. What happens at all the training sessions? We know we're not blessed with lots of good defenders so all the more reason to have an attacking plan to get the best out of our good forwards to compensate. I feel the issue is not our forwards or our ability to score 2 pointers. We have some of the best shooters in the game but defensively we are way off the pace. We neither seem to be man marking tight enough 1 v 1 or marking zonally. Way too many times Galway were kicking scores with no pressure on the around the 25m/30m area. Zonal marking is no use when up against a team like Galway with runners from deep and playing coming at pace off the shoulder. Joyce made the switch before throw in to play Sean Kelly in the half back line something Roscommon management never copped onto and he played puck all afternoon. Tyrone and Derry I have seen use the same zonal marking system in championship games this year and Donegal,Armagh popped over scores for fun totally unchallenged.

Team selected for tomorrow's Connacht U20 final The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4023 - 29/04/2025 15:38:49 2605422 Link 2 |
Yes the Bookies have Mayo 1/9 and Roscommon 7/1. We have a young team and Mayo are entitled to be favourites but surely not 1/9. I think this Roscommon team will put in a performance tomorrow evening in Tuam. Best of luck to them. It would be great to win back to back Connacht U20 titles.

We've had worse groups! If only our form hasn't been so cat I'd actually be more looking forward to the games. If our performances don't improve we could end up not winning any game. But if we got our act together we could really do well in that group. Hope they can turn the ship around. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 70 - 30/04/2025 14:20:24 2605695 Link 0 |
If kerry win munster presume they would be favourite ls

No easy matches in that group then again what is a easy match for us in current form? Bookies and punters will likely have us finishing bottom up to us to find form and prove them wrong The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4023 - 30/04/2025 14:59:24 2605722 Link 1 |
Major upturn inbform, tactics etc required ufxwere to be thinking of knockout stages. Meanwhile best of luck to u20s tonight. A squad of whom not that much was expected and hopefully they will confound expectations and the bookies 7 to 1. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2273 - 30/04/2025 16:28:03 2605777 Link 2 |
Roscommon bring their early season form whereby they beat Louth, Monaghan, Down and Cork then it will be 2nd place finish in that group. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3595 - 30/04/2025 17:07:08 2605796 Link 0 |
Bookies do not give us much of a chance, as we are only 12th favourite for the All Ireland at 80/1. ALL IRELAND ODDS: Possible provincial winners Kerry 9/4, Clare 1000/1 Leinster beaten finalist: Meath 50/1, Louth 125/1 Fourth Seeds: Cork 50/1 Up to the management and players to prove the bookies wrong, starting in Killarney with a good performance. This is an attractive location for a match and hopefully a good few Rossies will travel for the weekend. Best of luck to the under 20's tonight against a strong Mayo team. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 720 - 30/04/2025 17:35:08 2605805 Link 0 |
Goals aplenty in Tuam but defeat it is. Mayo marginally better but it's a game Roscommon could have won. Thought Ros got very little all evening from the ref. Why was the late goal disallowed. endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 2380 - 30/04/2025 20:26:43 2605849 Link 0 |
Hard luck to the u20s put their lot into it and played their part in a good quality Connacht final. I don't think the ref made the correct call to disallow that 5th goal and a point up with a minute to go and we could easily have held on for a famous win. The odds was utter insult to us and you could see that drove the lads. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4023 - 30/04/2025 21:03:45 2605853 Link 2 |
Dubious call on disallowing that 5th Roscommon goal was the rub of the green got Mayo over the line. Serious fitness and work rate by the Roscommon players when you consider it was their 4th match in 20 days while it was Mayo's first in 14 weeks. Collins, Carthy Brothers, Morris, McGuinness was good and the Heneghans gave their all also. 10 starters underage next year? Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3595 - 30/04/2025 22:38:41 2605870 Link 0 |
Hard luck is right. Very very impressed with the fitness of those lads considering their game time and the heat yesterday. I'm sure there will be plenty of regrets when you think of some of the possesssions won only to give it away cheaply again. Hoepfully that will only serve to drive them on next year. A lot of praise has to go to Cian Smith and his management team to bring a very unfancied side to a Connacht final and then very close to nicking it. They seem to have huge belief and a real fight to the death attitude. FullOfPorter (Roscommon) - Posts: 70 - 01/05/2025 10:07:20 2605938 Link 0 |
14 weeks a bit of a stretch lad.

I thought the goal was good and I was near enough to that end on the terace. The umpires made the decision straight away and didn't raise the green flag so obviously they saw something. It was some game of football and we were right in there at that stage. Some fightback after being behind so far in the first half. Well done to Mayo they look a very good team with some serious athletes in their team and should go far. I know a lot of our lads are eligible again next year but that is never a good indication of how things will go at underage level. Hard luck.on the night Rossieforever (Roscommon) - Posts: 101 - 01/05/2025 10:32:48 2605952 Link 0 |
The scheduling advantage Mayo had would have played a big part in odds and mindset of the punters and to be controversially disallowed goal away from winning what if Roscommon had at least two weeks to prepare for the final like Mayo had? It's obviously should read 14 days lad.
