14 points is a brutal score in the new rules and really shows you are not winning ball at all. Doyle and Ryan are no Kilpatrick and Kennedy but they've done well up until now. You can still win possession even against better individual ball winners through stopping the opposition catching cleanly, winning a good share of the breaks and some smart kick outs from your own goalie. Monaghan have a great keeper but their midfield is not better than Tyrones or Galways.
I agree with sourmilk, thought we did well when Cunnane came on as a blood sub. Found it strange he wasn't the first man brought in when there was a midfield change. O'Hanlon got far too many handy kicks from Beggan as well without anyone tracking him. We didn't look like a team switched on at all. Three weeks was an ideal break too. Maybe enough homework wasn't done on Monaghan. I'm sure management will analyse that game apart. Don't think we need to throw the baby out with the bath water either. Meath, Louth, Mayo, Cork all had very bad defeats and melt downs this championship yet recovered and 3 of those 4 will make a quarter final at least. It's just a pity ours came in a knock out game and next year seems to far away.

Replying To The_analyser:  "The manner of the exit is the main thing and trying to understand it and how to not repeat it next year will be the main thing now.

@moros we lost but didn't go out to Kildare. All previous exits before the quarter-final stage for the last decade was fine margin competitive contests and it's the very least I expected from on Saturday yet we had no spark to get going at all and once Monaghan took the lead it was manner of what the margin was going to be so was no same drama in Clones unfortunately."
Look it. We got a home day in R1 and couldn't make it count. We never turned up last Saturday. Can talk about been unfortunate to draw 2 Ulster sides
Tyrone didn't get out of D2 while Monaghan were relegated to D2
Mayo went to Clones and eon in the first round
. No easy way of glossing over a disappointing AI campaign. Connacht title foes not hold much water now
