Should an intercounty manager need previous experience as a county manager? I'm not too sure he does, as you said he needs to be surrounded by top quality coaches some with intercounty experience.

Different code but look at what work rate and belief did for Tipp today. Unbelievable performance.

No I don't think so as long as they've a good head on their shoulders and some good coaches in there.

What a manager they have, he won every thing from underage to the ultimate prize, they were training 3 nights a week in the gym before preseason. Maybe we could take a bit of inspiration from them as we have similar colours!!

Main inspiration would be the season Tipp had last year which was group stage exit like Roscommon this summer.

Hopefully we'll resort to our proper jerseys next year. Will failure to qualify for the KO stages galvanise us to burst the boilers for next year? First we need a manager..... Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2558 - 20/07/2025 21:42:44 2626745 Link 1 |
Tipp have a great tradition and record in All Ireland finals. They've always been hard beaten when they get to the final. 29 Finals won ,only 13 lost. They were outstanding today for a team with so many young players in their first final.

Tipp are a traditional super power in Hurling.

Totally agree..ditch that ridiculous jersey for starter's. Key management appointment for this county now.

And they showed why yesterday. Be it Mayo, Roscommon or Galway now as well, it's very hard to be confident that a Connacht team would produce the goods and deliver on All Ireland final day. Cork's famine goes on but Connacht has a 24 year famine and it's hard to see it ending unfortunately.

And finished bottom of their championship group last year without a win. This year hammered by Cork in both the Munster championship and league. Did they draw from their super powers or simply the players and management knuckled down to get the very best version of themselves. Mind over matter as they say, I suppose you won't be giving Donegal much of chance against traditional super power in football Kerry on Sunday?

Mayo or Galway regularly get to finals. It will happen someday. That's what you got to believe…even though it may not seem that way. Roscommon need to get a bit of consistency, try and make a semi final which ye have not done in a very long time. Not having a go. I firmly believe every county under the right conditions, coaching, leadership, commitment and everyone rowing in the one direction can be competitive at the high end and even win an all Ireland. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11718 - 21/07/2025 15:53:15 2626936 Link 0 |
Yesterday Cork was as bad as I've seen a team perform in a All-Ireland final be it football or Hurling. Outscored by 21 points and only scored two points themselves. Whatever about winning All-Irelands all Connacht counties need a full review and look to improve on what they did this year. Sligo should be well capable of reaching the Tailteann Cup final and holding their own against Kildare in the final but was out well before the final. Roscommon are a lot better than finishing bottom in their group. Were well capable of matching last years quarter final appearance. Galway reached 2 All-Ireland finals in 3 years that was a big regression this year. Made Meath look better than they are. Mayo especially their own supporters would have a miminal expectation of reaching the last 4 but haven't reached the last 8 the last 2 years. Sod Galway, Mayo and Sligo and worry about ourselves. Are we on a downward spiral? Quarter Finals last year, bottom of the group this year...... Are we heading for another manager soap opera, a 2nd rate appointment, poor backroom, players jumping ship, relegation, finances in bother, a 7th poor Connacht championship in a row, Round 2B exit........TC in 2027... Hopefully productive work going on behind the scenes. No wild rumours spinning around the media this time around thankfully. I know we have a disadvantage population wise but we seem to be very light on producing high quaity coaches/managers. Even the recent successful club managers have not been "homegrown", McStay (although an adopted Rossie) the Brigids All Ireland winning manager, a Kerryman brings Brigids back to All Ireland in 2023, Pat Flanagan PPs Connacht winning break through manager. Frankie, Fergie O'Donnell and Don Connellan probably our best in recent times. Don is the only one of those three to have guided a team to a provincial club title.
