Replying To S1234:  "Walsh suffers to much with injury he is not a starter . Ryan O'Donoghue is a much better forward then Walsh . There is no way Walsh would replace Ryan O'Donoghue.

It was a nughtmare season for the whole Mayo panel in 25 not just Ryan O'Donoghue hence the new management for us. Your wearing your marooned tinted glasses as usual . Ye will probably win connacht as we are rebuilding but Walsh is reclining ."
Reclining, is it? What, like in a sun lounger?

Hilarious you know what I meant Walsh is well passed his peak days. Ryan O ' D will be much better this year with the return of Cillian & Tommy C so all the pressure is not on Ryan .

Galway are an ageing team .

Its hard not to rise to the bait on this . Im 99% certain that you are making tongue in cheek comments to get a rise out of us. But just on the 1% chance that you are in earnest, i have to say "are you in earnest?". Ryan o donoghue is a very hard hearted player with a fair degree of skill and we would definitely like to have in our team. But to compare him with Shane Walsh is nothing short of delusional. SW is moving towards his twilight years but he is still lightning quick with ball in hand, and he is not going to get any less skillful. His role will have to evolve a little over the remainder of his career, but he is still a key player and if Mayo had him, he would be the 1st name on the team sheet. Interesting that you call out Shanes age in the same breath as Cillian O Connor, who is more than 1 year older, as being a contributor to Mayo's effectiveness in 2026.

You mentioning Cillian O'C while talking about Walsh "reclining" due to age, and you Tommy Conroy while talking about Walsh's injuries.

Id mention the word irony but I'm reasonably sure you wouldn't understand that term either

Cillain OCurraoin needs to post a decent score from play against Leitrim to show he's worth the talk on here. Lot of hype like Tomo but he hasn't had too many outings either. Hopefully he can step up.

I'd agree with you on Heaney - he did give great service although he as anonymous in 2 all ireland finals."
Heaney scored from play I think in 22 against Kerry. Could've had a goal only for a brilliant block down. He took more shots, even if only 1, than Comer Tierney and Finnerty. If it wasn't for Walsh and McDaid that day having the games or their lives we'd have been beaten by ten.
In 24 in fairness to him he came on for Finnerty and he was never suited to a sideways handpassing game with 30 lads crowded inside the 45.
But yeah he didn't put a dent on either final, but I think he's not alone there. In the last 20 years that I can recall, countless players on Galway teams in both codes have been anonymous and given 4 or 5/10 performances on All Ireland final day when an 8/10 is needed. It'd make you wonder why, it's not limited to Heaney. Counties like Clare can come up to All Ireland finals and win with a new team, they've won 4/5 in 30 years with 3 different teams.

Maybe considering he missed all of Galways championship last year through injury?

Pretty sure he played the early parts and think he got MOM in first outing against Armagh under lights. Dont think he seen any minutes in champo and not sure how he played in sigerson midweek. Himself & his neighbour O Conghaile need to kick on this year and take any chance they get in league to have any hope of getting mins in 26 champo with PJ

His neighbour kicked the insurance score in the Connacht Final against Mayo, and then never saw another minute of championship action.
That looked to me like someone taking a chance, but never got another chance after that.

Reports are saying Matthew Thompson had the longest kick at the Leader NFL kicking trials in December out of 100 kickers.... A man of many talents.

Was Liam not injured last year?

Not at that stage. That was much later in the year.

Got off to a good start with a fine goal but the Galway development panel team in Tuam have been poor since then struggling to break down the defensive system poacher had brought and his side has a deserved 3 point lead at half time.

Fair enough if he was injured. I thought he went quiet in the league after that Armagh match. Not having a go at the lad, but he needs to step up because a scoring inside forward is needed seeing as Comer is missing 90% of matches.

Much better from Galway 2nd half 1-15 to 0-4 in scoring tells you all you need to know.

2-6 for Matthew Thompson on his final appearance for a few months. A class apart. Serious loss for the league and Connacht championship.

Entertaining game, nice crowd on a bitterly cold afternoon.
Leitrim were good in the first half, defensively strong and punishing Galway with 3 two pointers off the Leitrim goalkeepers boot.
Much better in the second half.

Stand out players?
Thompson absolutely class, what a player we will have back for the major part of championship.
Shane Mc Grath was excellent when introduced, the rest were good but I suppose it is a development team..
