Tomo came on and scored a vital goal in the 68th minute against Down, and got Galway into the All Ireland QF. Gearoid1998ffowaed (Galway) - Posts: 207 - 28/10/2025 14:06:44 2642015 Link 0 |

Finnerty and Walsh scored 1-13 between them in that game v Down. Walsh kicked a 2pt free into wind with his bad foot while carrying an injury Finnerty put to bed in last couple years that hes not the man for big games jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1814 - 28/10/2025 14:58:14 2642024 Link 2 |

The fact he even took them on says a lot I think.

Says alot whilst I get your point about having the courage to go for it I would argue he should known his limits and tried to work the 2nd one especially. In the end it was a key factor in SK yet again falling short. Would the goalie or Finnerty have been a better option? I know its all hindsight but in a 2 point loss these are the margins especially when ya see Dessie slot is 2 pointer.

So what's your point exactly? That Cooke and Dessie are more consistent than Walsh or Finnerty is it? galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1337 - 28/10/2025 18:58:09 2642066 Link 1 |

Both senior and intermediate campaigns in Halway were of a great standard and well done to both winners.. Galwaymaster9 (Galway) - Posts: 439 - 29/10/2025 14:09:04 2642142 Link 0 |

But lets be realistic too Tuam & SK whilst "close" are as far away as ever. Any team can use injuries throughout the year as an excuse and being slightly unlucky. Dont think any team can hope to go thorugh a champo campaign with no injuries. Salthill could say same about Maher. Fact of matter is SK & Tuam were in positions to win the game and found a way to lose it. Tuam similar story against Moycullen in last yrs semi final. SK same story as 22 when Cooke "hand of God" goal won it. This may seem harsh but these are the fine lines come business end of champo its about getting over the line & Tuam & SK have ultimatley failed consistently here. We could unfortunately say the same about galway footballers in 22 & 24. Throw in Mayo all those finals against Dublin too. FINE MARGINS

Agree with everything said here. Fact is, you need to find a way to win, and anyone who plays football knows that it's when your legs are going and it's 60 min in, and you need to convert, that's when games are won. Everything else is just talk. Fact is, salthill knocknaracara (and Galway team) find it tough to get over the line. They haven't won since 2012, which is insane considering their panels and club members dedication. Credit to Tuam for roughing it out against Killanin, they found a way to win, but most people would agree that Corofin lost the other SF rather than SK finding a way to win it. They were poor in the second half. Fine margins win games. Gearoid1998ffowaed (Galway) - Posts: 207 - 29/10/2025 18:24:45 2642179 Link 2 |

Kinda talking about both sides of your mouth there you can't say teams find a way to win and then disregard Sk win over corofin as the other side finding a way to lose That was SK losing their captain and best player early on jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1814 - 29/10/2025 18:52:47 2642182 Link 0 |

You can't be dependent on not losing one or more of your better players on a given day if you have ambitions of winning , Moycullen were a much changed lineup due to players moving away to take up work abroad or too far to commute for training or games. MM and Moycullen lost finals when missing their most influential men ...Michael Daly and Sean Kelly but differed in how they responded the following year, the ball is in SKs court for next year, no dividend in weeping over what's past now. backtooldwall (Galway) - Posts: 201 - 29/10/2025 19:59:55 2642187 Link 0 |

Give me a David Clifford and a Michael Donnellan in my squad any day of the week. Then I'll talk 'fine margins' after that. You need enough quality through the field to win, at every level and code of club and county. I don't think the current Galway squad has the quality to match the level that Kerry brought to the business end in 2025. Nor did any other squad in the country this season. The Salthill problem and the Galway problem are two different problems. Salthill are arguably as talented as any club in the county, off and on for years, but traditionally haven't the steel at senior level to match silverware with talent. 'Fine margins', whatever they are, could be an issue on occasion. Galway's problem is distinctly different though. We're not as good as Kerry 2025, on pitch, paper, or anywhere else, so any talk of 'fine margins' in that specific context is moot imo. Its simple as this they are no closer to winning it as they were 13years ago back to the drawing board. They have had big chances in finals 22 & 25 against Moycullen and simply did not get over the line. Whilst they certainly are a good team it does not mean a whole pile until they win a Frank Fox. This talk of them having the best forward line in Ireland this year when it named their county 6 from 10-15 was ridiculous. Funnily enough i do think if they won one they could win another one or 2 similar to Moycullen in 2020. The biggest transfer they could make would be getting Caroline Currid or the mental side of things from Moycullen.

Yes they are they are 13 years closer to winning it as they were in 2012 unless they never win frank fox again

Dessie is the most reliable forward we have at the moment, would be crazy not to have him back for 2026. Gearoid1998ffowaed (Galway) - Posts: 207 - 30/10/2025 13:40:50 2642252 Link 0 |
