Is 'points for' more significant than 'points difference' in sorting any 3or4way ties in these senior and intermediate championships? I see it's included in the galwaygaa tables anyway, and points difference is not.

He was involved as selector with Donall O Fartharta for those 2 or 3 years from 2017 to 2019 where they they made it to couple of minor finals.

Times have changed and naming clubs and commenting on how many from clubs shows that someone hasn't a clue. Lots of savage work being done in clubs and schools every corner of the county. The one good thing about the academy system is and I can say this with confidence, every young lad is getting a chance

I still think Liam Costello is county standard. He has pace, power, work rate and can finish. He seems to deliver every day now for Milltown as well so not much more he can do. smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 556 - 17/08/2025 11:31:47 2632232 Link 1 |
!00% about Mulhern. Has skill and explosiveness. Should be closely looked at by Galway over the winter.

Firstly, I'm not at all surprised that there's a strong MB group involved, in fact I'm delighted to see the diversity, and it's something that's badly needed. My original point was in reference to the list that appeared in the Tuam Hearld article, which hadn't included any players from Oranmore, S/K or Moycullen etc. Looking at the full squad now, we can see those clubs are indeed represented as suspected. That said, I do agree with you it often feels like the same clubs are producing the county players year in, year out. If we take the U20s as an example Dunmore won the North Board U19 last year and only lost the County final by 4 points, yet just 1 player made the U20 squad. Meanwhile, 6 players from Corofin were included, despite the fact that they weren't able to match Dunmore at U19 level. So the question is where does the issue lie? Is it that coaches aren't attending enough games outside the A grade? Or is there too much focus on the bigger, established clubs? Schools football also plays a role here, depending on location and grade, which can unfairly influence who gets spotted. At the end of the day, if we want to develop stronger county teams, the net needs to be cast wider. Talent exists in every parish, it's just about giving those players the same chance to be seen. Hard to believe that this is a problem in this day and age. Not rocket science to ring a representative of every club, and find out who their top players are at every level, and trial them out, or make sure to see them in some game. If you're a Galway manager at any level in either code, and you're not scoping the county for the top talent available to you, then you shouldn't be a Galway manager at any level in either code.
