To say you know for a fact what what would happen if Galway scored some more frees is an absolutely ridiculous statement. Games goes in a different direction, teams would have a different approach to the 2nd half, 0 way of knowing. The only thing thats factual is Armagh won. They got it soft for sure!! Last year worked out the same for them, you could argue they didn't have a stern test up until that semi final against Armagh and came in a bit undercooked.

Beat them once, you expect that. Have to beat div1 sides about 6 times to make an all Ireland final is a silly broken system. There is no way that your Clare/Louth/Meath Munster/Leinster runner up should be seeded ahead of NFL div1 sides. They doubled down by sticking by far the two best of the rest Tyrone and Dublin, into the Connacht Ulster groups too. The end result is farcical l, 4 div1 sides in a group, and two groups with only a single NFL 2025 side. High time the draw was conducted based on seedings derived from that year's closing NFL positions. This draw today is embarrassingly skewed, and Galway and Mayo have drawn short straws. The final irony now is that Sunday's loser gets Cavan rather than Derry, and Roscommon got a softer draw than both finalists. It's nothing short of absolutely ridiculous. The odds on winning the Connacht final are much closer now that the draw has been made it was Galway 1/5 V Mayo 11/4 earlier in the week PP, but now 4/9 V 9/4 for Galway to retain the title. The winner on Sunday will have to go on to win the group to have any chance at the ultimate prize. Should Galway prevail on Sunday they will have played 5 consecutive division 1 Championship games before the race for SAM kicks off proper at all. The group winner will at least avoid an additional knockout game and enjoy a well earned short rest. On the plus side, the group of death provided both the all Ireland winners and runners up last year. Looks like team managers will have a big headache trying to avoid player burnout in the coming weeks. giveitlong (Galway) - Posts: 1275 - 30/04/2025 18:05:16 2605816 Link 0 |
Galway keep getting these tough draws time Joyce speaks up and calls it out. Kew (Galway) - Posts: 159 - 30/04/2025 18:23:34 2605820 Link 0 |
There's no big conspiracy at play. We got a tough draw, those are the breaks but 3 come out of the group. I'd rather come out of the group playing tough championship matches and knowing where we are to the inevitable cake walk that Kerry will have. bollocks (Galway) - Posts: 8 - 30/04/2025 22:20:47 2605866 Link 1 |
And say what exactly? They just need to deal with it and take it game by game.

Possibly, but having to play teams at that level week after week takes it out of the players. It takes its toll on the panel. It's very hard to keep playing at that level for 6 weekends. If we get out of the group, we'll have played 5 division 1 teams just to get to a preliminary quarter or a quarter final. Kerry will have played none to get to a quarter final. I know the system is finishing this year, but it's been very unfair. Clare being seeded above Dublin and Tyrone is a farce. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2299 - 30/04/2025 22:45:05 2605871 Link 0 |
Obviously there's no conspiracy at play, but its still frankly outrageous how many times Galway have gotten the hardest draw possible since 2022 Joyce has been an unlucky manager all told between winning provincials but still ending up with a harder draw than anyone else repeatedly, and the myriad of injuries PressureKick (UK) - Posts: 267 - 30/04/2025 23:58:37 2605888 Link 0 |
Say what's obvious for a start, which is that provincial runners up shouldn't acquire a 2seeding in the allireland draw, and that pots 2,3,4 should be seeded based on that years final NFL tables, and nothing else. I don't think it's Joyce's job to say it though. Every sane observer nationwide is saying it.

All Armagh's scores in the final came from play, they missed all 3 frees they got. Complete rubbish to say Galway missing frees was the determining factor last year.

The draw is a mess, no doubt about that but ultimately if we do our business right it'll be six games to win Sam over 10 weeks. That would have been the focus since November 2024. It may well be 6 division one teams on that journey, it may not. The landscape of the championship will change again come quarter final stage. ahsure.
