Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "Good point. Athenry nearly have to be 'good' these days with their numbers and catchment area. From a Galway minor perspective, Athenry would clearly need to be better in the circumstances."
Yes but a lot of them lads might not be from Athenry but from the surrounding parishes. So because the school is a powerhouse doesn't mean Athenry itself will be.

I was referring to school Athenry, not 'club Athenry'.

Oh ok. Fair play. Well they've been the Gold Standard recently.

Replying To Off_the_post:  "Fact is we are not good enough and there will have to be alot of work put into this team. Unfortunately it will be the end for alot of the older lads (who absolutely owe nothing to galway at all) and it's sad to see them go out like this but the reality is that it will happen. MD has to be ruthless now. Blood in the young lads get them the experience let them learn and hopefully results will start going our way in the next 2-3 years. But it will be painful at first but hopefully that will change.
Another thing the style of hurling they play does not suit in my opinion any team that has pace causes galway alot of problems.
In the future there needs to be pace ,steel, creating goal chances and get out of the habit of relying on one player to do the work. This team needs to show some grit and a type of meanness.
Club championship is about 6 weeks or so away hopefully it's a good one and MD and management can unearth more players.
Lastly I do hope this doesn't have a negative effect on the supporters. Start of the year bellew and md were trying to rally the supporters to get back behind the team but unfortunately the way this yesr has gone i think there has been damage done to the supporters and it will take awhile to get them back behind the team again. I hope I'm wrong but for now we look forward to the club championship and see what happens next year"
From past trends there will be 10 or more Turloughmore players on the Galway panel next year.
Just watch......

Mightn't be a bad idea. I often thought that recent Turlough sides looked like a county team from 1to9, and then were largely toothless up front.

There will be more than 1-9 in largely toothless or not

1985 spot on 40yrs. I'd have Turlough as my favourites for the Co.Cup this year

With the same men in charge in 2019 there was 8 Turlough lads involved and not one County Final won in Tourlough before or since

Galway haven't won much with players who have done well with their clubs over the last 40years...

Of course there wont be. I dont know what that other poster is raving about. I can't remember when Turlough had more than a couple on the panel and certainly as regular starters. Must be 40+ years ago. And somehow I dont think a Clarinbridge man will be that besotted by Turlough players! Earlier on this year someone else on here was complaining that there were too many Bridge players on the team/panel so you just cant win!

If memory serves me correctly, no player who featured in the last two galway hurling county finals started for galway' in their last game of the c ship , Cappy , Thomass and of course the regular ignored Loughrea , and interestingly for all the talk of u20 as a development group , neither club that contested the 2024 county final fielded an u20 club team !!
But to your point, this is galway and everyone looks after their own ….

Turlough should be marginal favs over Loughrea to lift the cup this year. Good bunch of u20s coming into that Turlough side that was already strong enough and won the league this year. Will be interesting to see how their forward line goes this year with Phelan/Loftus/Walsh/O'Hanlon. Loughrea should be thereabouts and have an easy group. I think the winner comes from those two or Clarinbridge. Any team that has TJ Brennan, Gavin Lee, Evan Niland down the middle has to have a chance. Throw in the likes of Joshua Ryan, Mark Kennedy, Aaron Niland, Sean Murphy etc. Can't see Thomas' winning it with Fintan likely out for a while and their age profile isn't good.
