Is James Downey from Eyrecourt worth a look at county level, or what age is he now? Got a lot of praise in this year's campaign for them.

He is a brilliant player. Very good in the air and fairly accurate shooter. The issue is he's not particular big or quick and must be 27/28 now. I would say the Flemings have a better chance of getting into training squads

By all accounts the new players being brought into Seniors were met last week by mgmt Names like Reilly from Castlegar, Walsh, Trayers, Whelan from Turloughmore, Niland & Murphy from Clarinbridge mentioned WesternSeaBoard (Galway) - Posts: 136 - 08/11/2024 16:32:26 2578966 Link 1 |

Tomorrow for the county final I predict a very evenly fought game. I think cappy will look to bring a physical game to Loughrea early on and unsettled them. I imagine Loughrea will ride it out and their experience will see them over the line. Maybe a goal or two from them also. Great opportunity for Cappataggle to win today. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 10/11/2024 10:59:30 2579088 Link 1 |
Congratulations Loughrea!!! Best of luck going forward. Hard luck to Cappy. Better days ahead. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2271 - 10/11/2024 15:32:12 2579105 Link 1 |
Bad luck Cappy the missed penalty, 13 wides and not squeezing up man v man on the Loughrea puck outs was their undoing. Loughrea nothing special and completely there for the taking. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 10/11/2024 15:58:41 2579107 Link 1 |
Youll never seen Darren shocks or tiernan killeen play so poorly. They won it with 14 men. Cappy never looked like winning

Good assessment and prediction! Congrats to Loughrea! Hope Cappataggle come again!

I think cappy need a few more men to contribute to the scoreboard but they were very impressive again. Surely Micheal garvey should be in with Galway. BigBàsMan (Galway) - Posts: 55 - 10/11/2024 16:23:11 2579111 Link 1 |
Agree poor game overall cappy giving loughrea the puck outs was a disaster as a neutral the game never took off too many mistakes by both team's

They'll definitely come again. They have some lovely young hurlers coming through and they have a high workrate

Agree with previous posters Cappy giving up the Loughrea puck outs was a disaster and its one thing trying the tactic but to not change it for the entire game was baffling stuff. John Doe (Galway) - Posts: 241 - 11/11/2024 07:40:34 2579175 Link 2 |
Does anyone know when Loughreas next match is and against whom? Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2271 - 11/11/2024 10:25:12 2579193 Link 0 |
Tactics remained unchanged throughout from both teams. winter ground conditions despite the pitch being in good condition may have played a part in going direct.I would estimate the attendance to be in the region of 7 1/2 thousand, a bit short of what was there for a national league match against Clare a good number of years ago.The quality of the viewing vantage in a lot of the ground when that size crowd is present leave a bit to be desired. This was a game that seems to have generated a lot of anticipation in the Cappy, Loughrea areas if one was to judge by the number of team colours on cars around Galway city and Salthill on Saturday.

I mentioned the vantage points last week. The terrace in Athenry is a bit 'flat' compared to a good viewing terrace, like the 3 sides of Pearse Stadium. And you'd need to be a VIP to get in the shhtand in Athenry the sizeen of it.

I'm curious what other tactics you'd suggest Loughrea to employ when they had corner backs free at every pick out? They generally tried to play the ball diagonally into space like they did all year. What else could they have done genuinely curious?
