But honestly my point is the Preliminary Quarter Finals are a waste of time because whoever finishes 3rd in their group most certainly isn't going to win the County Final. So they get the extra game of a Preliminary Quarter Final where the success rate of a 3rd group placed team winning is almost 0%. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 17/09/2024 19:27:29 2570463 Link 1 |
Preliminary Quarter Finals: Cappataggle v Killimordaly...................Cappy Clarinbridge v Ardrahan.......................'Bridge St.Thomas' v Craughwell.......................Thomas' Castlegar v Kilconieron..........................Cashel Senior Relegation Semi Finals: Mullagh v Moycullen.........................Mullagh Gort v Oranmore-Maree...................Gort Intermediate Preliminary Quarter Finals Apart from Killimor all the other games is anybodies guess because none of them will go further than Quarter Final!! Killimor v Craughwell..................….....Killimor Ballygar v Turloughmore...…………….Ballygar Clarinbridge v Rahoon-Newcastle….Rahoon Sylane v Abbeyknockmoy………………Sylane *****I agreed with all your picks above but the Gort match is very iffy. For a few different reasons I'd like to see Kinvara win it out, but wouldn't be unhappy to see TAD win it either.

I expect Clarinbridge to come through Ardrahan but they are under awful pressure in this game. Would be a disaster for them to go out in a preliminary quarter final. Didn't get going at all against Loughrea. They really need Shane Ryan and Aaron Niland in soon. Ardrahan will give them plenty with Glynn and Kennedy back. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 798 - 19/09/2024 10:05:44 2570688 Link 1 |
Same as saying the new style champions league is a waste of time, because 36 sides don't have a chance of winning it, nor do 16 or more of the 24 qualifiers. You'll still have 4 full houses in Celtic Park in the coming months, and at many other venues as well, and 3 or 4 TV channels discussing Celtic's qualification odds for the next three months. It's a silly point you make, that teams who won't win the county final are wasting their time playing games in the competition. The vast majority of teams, in all sports worldwide, play their games without winning the competitions they're competing in. My original point is......there is no need to be playing County Finals in bleek miserable November because we loose 4 weeks due to playing poxy unnecessary Preliminary Quarter Finals just to facilitate a 3rd group placed team.

100% Correct - it's madness. Should be top two teams to quarter finals and if your not good enough to finish top two your only wasting your time and also the clubs money paying a trainer circa €100 a night for extra few weeks. John Doe (Galway) - Posts: 241 - 20/09/2024 07:31:23 2570885 Link 1 |
Weather often better these days in Sept/Oct/Nov than in Jun/July/August. This year no exception so far.

Also that Junior A,B,C,D,E,F is a calamity of a set up with two groups of 6 in each grade apart from Junior A! It should be 16 teams with 4 groups of 4 in Junior A,B,C and D and top 2 from each group into Quarter Finals. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 20/09/2024 17:37:29 2571038 Link 1 |
Sure only one team can win a competition. Its about keeping lads hurling. These have been training since start of year, why not give them extra game? And if county final is being played in Nov so what?Club final is in January so whoever wins County final needs to be able to play in wet cold weather.

Positional switches from the Loughrea loss made a massive difference to Clarinbridge today. Dylan Dunne hurled a lot of ball at centre back, Kilduff starting at midfield and Evan Niland moving inside with Josh Ryan freed up Gavin Lee at centre forward. Mad the amount of u20s they have in the team. Must have had six or seven of them see action today and obviously still missing the main man from that underage team. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 798 - 21/09/2024 17:51:25 2571190 Link 2 |
Well done to Clarenbridge. Great win. Gort got a fair old hammering sigh. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2270 - 21/09/2024 19:24:11 2571196 Link 0 |
Oranmore would have been an addition to the last 12 playoffs. Remarkable to fall from first to last in a group of four, off the back of a last second injury time goal concession.

Preliminary Quarter Final Cappataggle 3-27 Killimordaly (3rd) 2-15 15pt loss for another team who finished 3rd in their group! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 22/09/2024 16:08:23 2571263 Link 1 |
100% the preliminary quarter finals need to be scrapped and this weekend has provided the evidence why with 3 hammerings so far and another one to come next week for Craughwell. Delegates need to get this through at the AGM and stop the madness. On another topic nice to see Joe Canning back in another county semi final.
