Haven't improved a jot under Shefflin, another wasted year in both codes. Gilberto_Eire (Galway) - Posts: 57 - 11/02/2024 17:19:37 2525482 Link 2 |
Agree completely. I thought bringing in eamon o shea would create space up top and we would see alot of cross field balls into our forwards but instead all the the balls were lobbed down ontop of Ronan Maher

We didn't win very many puck outs either. Hard to win when you keep handing them the ball.

Which of the two would you start now...... I reckon Conor and Evan scored maybe 0-16 between them! As I said earlier I'm happy to start both of them. Poor TJ it didn't go well at all for him and Morrissey didn't improve the situation one bit! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2202 - 11/02/2024 17:53:41 2525488 Link 1 |
True but Niland missed two scoreable frees and an absolute sitter in an important stage where we could have gone ahead. Could have been a different game if they went over. If that was championship! Thats where Joe dragged us along over the years he never missed when we needed a score or a big free

The GAA has lost all credibility when it comes to dangerous play and hits to the head. The shoulder in full force onto Niland's chin today would be a straight red and a suspension even in rugby but the ref didn't even give a yellow card. Unbelievable. baire (Galway) - Posts: 1805 - 11/02/2024 18:17:13 2525492 Link 4 |
I felt Galway lacked pace and physicality - many of them are nice, "tippy-tappy" hurlers but you need old fashioned work-rate and toughness in the modern game as well as the ability to play the short passing "possession" game that has been perfected by the likes of Limerick in recent years. Most of Tipp's scores came from basic mistakes from the Galway goalie / backs trying to work the ball short and failing to do so leading to costly turnovers. Also midfield and half forwards were cleaned out of it for most of the game (this has been a problem for Galway for many years now and the current management team have not improved it one iota) and there were countless aimless high balls lobbed into the forward-line favouring the Tipp defenders 9 times out of 10. That kind of play will win no AI or even a Leinster title. A lot of work to do I'm afraid to challenge for silverware and I'm not sure if the players or even the management are in place to do it.

I was amazed the lad didn't get red for that. He definitely led with the shoulder.

Offaly played with great intensity they are on their way back. Conditions terrible also so fair play to them.

Not a bad game to watch as a neutral at this time of year; some big hits went in, as you'd expect from Galway versus Tipp. The worrying thing for Galway is that your forwards seen that bit light; not enough fight ad physicality. I think Jason Flynn's days are well up; hasn't burned a ball since 2017! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 1914 - 11/02/2024 18:49:26 2525502 Link 1 |

I agree 100%,it was a straight red,in the Waterford Clare match ref was giving yellow cards for a lot less than Niland incident,

We scored 0-24 yet it looked like Tipperary were doing all the hurling. There are a few little tweeks to made here and there, full backline and midfield ect ect, but I have no doubt its stronger Galway will get the futher on. To score 0-24 and only about 5 lads playing well is positive. We definitely will improve. katser (Galway) - Posts: 2202 - 11/02/2024 19:17:27 2525507 Link 1 |
too much is been made of eamon o shea..... limerick hammered tipp 19 , 20 , and 21 when he was coach . kinnerk gave o shea a lesson on how to set up a team and forward movement.......

Very light in that middle third, outfought for a lot of it. Fahy was excellent, his brother not too bad either. Lee did well, needs to be more involved but capable of taking lovely scores. I thought Linnane made a difference when he came on. Galwayspur (Offaly) - Posts: 230 - 11/02/2024 20:10:42 2525511 Link 1 |
Agree with you, use of the shoulder couldnt be clearer in the rules. But refs are not implimenting these rules in hurling.

enjoyable game, plenty of positives. Tipp lucky to avoid reds but they were the more consistent side today and were worthy winners. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1669 - 11/02/2024 20:39:12 2525522 Link 1 |
Sure the rules in hurling are just an optional guideline for Refs.

Good game, after a slow start. Game of the league so far. Galway and Tipp usually always a banker to deliver a decent game. Galway full back line looked very beaten in first 20 mins. Galway got to gripes with Tipp and took over before half time. Second half very similar but at a higher intensity. Thought it had draw written all over it but Tipp took their chances at the end and Galway didn't. I'd say both camps be happy enough with parts of what they seen and definitely learnt a lot from today. Tipp obviously a bit happier to win a tight game like that v a team that's generally had thir number in championship last while. Good to see Conor Cooney carrying over club form, while he hasn't performed overly well last years and probably lucky to keep place some games he has taken a lot of stick. Walter Walsh and Conor Lehane get something similar. Probably biggest positive for Galway today. Gavin Lee showed something at times that made him such a prospect, some pace. Cianan Fahy showed what he's good at. Darach Fahy is a much safer pair of hands than Eanna Murphy when it comes to saves and dealing with high balls, surprised its taken him this long to get a real go, was really good v Waterford in 21 on his debut in championship. Might need to sharpen up a few things but I think he's a better option and less likely to let in a howler. Slow start to both haves and the finish were dissapointing. TJ Brennan looked in trouble and pace might be an issue. Throughthemidfieldhewasstormin (Wexford) - Posts: 258 - 11/02/2024 20:40:59 2525524 Link 1 |
