Tough decision but its Jack McCaffrey in football. Unplayable. Couldnt argue with McCarthy or Fenton though. bad.monkey (USA) - Posts: 4649 - 21/08/2021 18:51:06 2373653 Link 0 |

I was thinking of Rushe as well for my choice. Probably the most solid performer for Dublin over his time, full forward, centre forward, centre back. Consistently good. Chris Crummy probably giving him a run for it at the moment. Another consistently brilliant performer. Dublin's biggest problem has been consistency. Players could look like All star candidates one day and then junior standard the next. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13799 - 21/08/2021 19:35:12 2373669 Link 3 |
Yeah good call on the Panther Realdub. I'm going to leave current players out, as good as they are, as they ain't finished yet (Dermo/Cluxton? excluded) always better judged when there finished and a bit of time has gone by so I'll not mention any of the current/recent gems. So being of a certain vintage I'll go back to the Panther and his crew, For me its Brian Mullins! Just loved his physicality and athleticism, he took it to a new level. The fact I was a Jimmy Keavney style player probably added to it. And by the way it's generally acknowledged that jimmy was 2nd only to John McCarthy in sprinting over 100 yards on that team so he was no slouch! I'd also agree with other posters 're great players from other countries. Matt Connor! enough said, I'd also mention Maurice Fitz, However, overall I'd have to say Jack O'Shea had it all, broke my heart as a young Dub but you had to admire him, had it all! What an engine! Yeh, Anton was scoring 3/4 from play in the days when scoring was low, not to mention the dirty belts you had to endure!

Matt Connor, and Brian Whelehan for me. The great Joe McKenna was from Shinrone in Offaly. He latermoved to Limerick, and won a Celtic Cross in 1973.

I remember my father wept when he spotted Matt in the wheelchair section in front of the old Nally stand at an All-Ireland final we attended together.

I remember Brian McMahon well, and John Twomey. However I'll never forget Paul Mullhare from then. 1985, league game v Laois, Croke Park! He was even wearing a helmet when it happened! RIP Paul, never to be forgotten!

I can still remember the moments I heard of Matt Connors and Brian Mullins car accidents! Brian was the lucky one. Sadly there's currently a bit of it about at the minute, heart breaking!

Since I don't have an Irish county, although I do follow Limerick, I'll list the best players from counties that I have seen play live in either code. There are so many counties that I've never seen play live, and quite a few only in one code. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2232 - 21/08/2021 22:21:08 2373734 Link 0 |
Was your Dad an Offaly man realdub? Or was he just like the rest of us to see this Colossus of a man struck down only coming into his prime?
