That's not the game I grew up playing The players must be scratching their heads That's not football A forward gets out in front, if you're good enough you'll win your possession then the work only starts, you have to beat your man, stay balanced, either get in a position to shoot, find a man, draw a frew or be smart enough to know you don't have any options and make sure not to give away an easy counter attack Now you catch the ball. That's it. Nope. That's not football jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 05/12/2020 19:53:56 2318712 Link 0 |
It's amazing, every point from around the D. Can't understand why teams keep following them out to the wings. Just hold the d!! They drag teams out wide and then run through the middle over and over again

Or address that they were playing a Div 3 side Imagine what Kilkenny would have done a few years ago to a Hurling side several places below them in an AI final There's only really 3 or 4 sides that can beat Dublin Cavan isn't one of them jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 05/12/2020 19:58:09 2318718 Link 3 |
I'm really starting to get the feeling that what is happening at the All Ireland series is what previously happened to the Leinster championship. Initially Dublin won a lot of consecutive Leinster titles but there was a level of competition in the Leinster championship (up to 2014 Meath Dublin games were fairly competitive). bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1413 - 05/12/2020 20:01:08 2318719 Link 1 |
Another result you could never have predicted. This year just keeps getting weirder and weirder Forpucksake (UK) - Posts: 131 - 05/12/2020 20:01:36 2318721 Link 1 |
Cavan tried hard and never gave up but a few tiers below Dublin. In a year where Kerry, Donegal and Tyrone were gone early with no back door or Super 8, the championship has a very ominous feeling, more so than other years. If Mayo win tomorrow we can only hope for a decent final. Donegal_abroad (Donegal) - Posts: 1417 - 05/12/2020 20:02:36 2318726 Link 1 |
You serious, Meath would win in another province , at the minute I'd rate Meath 2nd in Leinster, 4th in Munster, 3rd in Connacht and at best 5th in Ulster. sligo joe (Dublin) - Posts: 909 - 05/12/2020 20:03:53 2318728 Link 1 |

Sad to see the patting of the head type comments on social media and on rte coverage towards a proud football county like Cavan. Is this how we want the game of football to go. I personally think the game is in big trouble now and it may be too late to save it. They need to get rid of the forward mark and bring in a rule that once the ball goes into the attacking 45 the attacking team can't kick it back out the field. republicofcloone (Leitrim) - Posts: 375 - 05/12/2020 20:04:55 2318731 Link 0 |
Really? A few weeks ago before the Leinster final you were fully sure Meath were going to beat Dublin ,whats changed ?

John Costello might wanna have a word in Dessie's ear: "Make sure the boys keep the score relatively tight in the final, otherwise HQ might realise there actually is a huge problem!".

So true. RIP gaa. I presume Mayo will win tomorrow. I think the result of Mayo/Dublin will have a huge effect of the game. If mayo some how with a hail mary prayer win this GAA Dublin money laundering will be forgotten for another few years. If they lose by a point or two it will be deemed "still competitive". Mayo getting hammered (sorry tipp) is the only outcome I see an uproar with many counties. If that happens a boycott is needed by all counties until the GAA do something, not expectable. Even the Dubs know that at this stage. Part of me for this reason hope mayo lose by about 28 but I would actually like them to win....but they won't :(

In fairness Royal while ye in Leinster feel the wrath of the Dubs more than most no Leinster team are top 8. IMO there is the Dubs, then about 6 or 7 teams a good bit back based on an averaging of results over the last few yrs (Kerry, Mayo, Donegal, Tyrone, Galway, Ros and one or two more). Meath next tier with a few more. While we all know that the GAA have an issue I don't think yourselves are up to the list I have suggested in terms of development, potential etc. Look I would love to go back to the good old days of Dublin Meath titanic clashes but we are light yrs from that. Apart from today and once by Ros in a super 8 game when Ros were out all other non Leinster teams have kept the Dubs to single digits in championship in recent yrs. Not that I would be blowing about this but it is too simplistic to for the narrative in recent weeks suggesting that Dublin would hammer their way through any other province. Yes they would win but the facts indicate tighter margins.

Man for man Dublin way way the better talented players, I know it feels like having to swallow a lump of concrete everytime Dublin win, but Cavan where not good enough, Hard luck on them, they had a great year, if they beat the Dubs I would be cheering them on, I would love Tipp to win an All Ireland, even though I know Mayo deserve one. But at the end of the day the better teams win.

You can tell yourselves that if ye want but realistically Cavan are probably the 5th best team in Ulster. If the 5th best team in Ulster can put up a better fight than the 2nd best team in Leinster then what does that say?

If Cavan can win in Leinster so could Meath.

Ah Jim c'mon. Yes, Kerry, Donegal and Tyrone would have given them a harder game but that's papering over the giant issue. It's six in a row for Christ sake. It's nothing to do with the unusual championship this year. If anything, this year is really showing the championship for what it is.
