Munster GAA have announced that the proposed seeding of their SFC based on league positions will not take place until 2027.

Traditional giants Kerry and Cork were due to be seeded after Munster GAA decided in July that the two top-ranked counties in the Allianz Football League 2025 would be placed in opposing semi-finals for a three-year period.

The decision, however, was met with strong opposition by players in the four non-seeded counties of Limerick, Tipperary, Clare and Waterford who, with the support of the GPA, have forced a deferral of the provincial body’s plans.

Munster GAA have said this new system will not go into operation until after the 2026 league has been completed, meaning it cannot be done ahead of the 2026 draws which take place this week.

However, in a statement today Munster revealed that although Clare and Kerry are now seeded for the 2026 draw, they could still meet in next year’s semi-final.

“At an online meeting of Munster Council last night, it was agreed to postpone for one year the decision taken last July to change the seeding of the Munster Senior Football Championship for 2026,” said Munster GAA in a statement..

“As a result, the seeding process which has been in place in recent years will apply when the 2026 Munster Senior Football Championship draws take place on Thursday November 27th. Kerry and Clare as the 2025 Munster finalists will receive byes to the semi-final, but could be paired against each other in an open semi-final draw.”
