Former Tipperary goalkeeper Brendan Cummins feels Kilkenny “have a great chance” of winning their first All-Ireland SHC title since 2015 this summer.
After landing their sixth consecutive Leinster crown with victory over Galway on Sunday, the Cats are through to the last four of the Liam MacCarthy Cup and are 9/2 odds behind Cork (6/4) and favourites Limerick (5/4) to end their county’s decade long wait for the coveted trophy.
Speaking on The Sunday Game, Cummins said that Derek Lyng’s men are “definitely in the top three teams in the country” and feels that this year’s championship represents a fantastic opportunity for them.
"Last year, Clare had everything to do to beat them,” said the two-time All-Ireland winner. “I think they like that fact that everyone talks about Munster hurling. If they end up playing Limerick further down the road, they will be licking their lips at that.
“Eoin Cody will be back and the narrative will be that you keep the score down as best you can, but Kilkenny are a very proud county.
"I don't know the last time someone hammered Kilkenny. There is something inside Kilkenny and it's a long time since they won an All-Ireland and let us be the ones to do that. They have a great chance."
