Cillian O’Connor is hoping to recover from a knee injury in time to play in Sunday’s Allianz Football League Division 1 final.
The highest scorer in the history of the All-Ireland SFC has been plagued by injury in recent seasons and has started just one of Mayo’s League games so far this season. However, he is eager to prove his fitness ahead of the Connacht SFC quarter-final against Roscommon on the weekend after next.
"I’m still hoping for this weekend. I’m trying to push for inclusion but it might just be too tight," he told reporters this week.
“I have had a good fortnight there now behind me.But I’ve gradually ramped it up again in the last fortnight. I’d love to play but I don’t know what way it will go yet.”
“If I’m able, I’ll definitely be putting my hand up. I won’t be holding anything back because you can’t really rest on your laurels in any big squad.”
