O'Bryne Cup 2016

Lads today's match was far from perfect to be honest , we got opened up several times , by a poor Longford side , if we don't get two points next Sunday against Armagh today's result is irrelevant.

Very good team performance today and some strong individuals too. For a packed out Navan I thought the crowd was a bit quiet at times. If we want to compete with the Dubs we need to bring some hostility to the stands. No more nice friendly Meath but instead get in the face of the opposition. I'll be bringing a bodhrán starting next week for opposition frees etc. Any help on chants would be appreciated.

Well said johnjoe! It's time we all started to row in behind this team and believe we can actually go on and win more than an O'Byrne.

I have to say the goal we conceded was Junior B stuff and Longford did the exact same thing second half and hit the post.I wass happy we won today, but not too convinced by the overall performance to be perfectly honest.

Armagh will be physically stronger and we probably won't get as many scoring chances.Reilly 6 points from play but what if Armagh keep him quiet?

Good to get the win, we played well in patches today but got opened up far too easily on a number of occasions and overall I thought the game was average enough.

For me Reilly, Smyth, Rooney, O'Sullivan, Keogan and Burke all played well, also to his credit O'Rourke done much better off the kickouts today, there actually looked to be a plan with each kick and he found his man more often than not, I sincerely hope that's a sign of things to come.

Armagh will be a different proposition next week for sure but winning is a nice little habit, fingers crossed we can continue to get results even if the performances aren't spectacular.

Exactly. We need to get the flags and the colour out and the chants in full blast. I miss the days where the banks either end were the centre piece for the chants.

Good win today. I'll take any silverware. Let's take this win and run with it. Build on it, forget about the O'Byrne Cup and drive onto the league. Take one match at a time and who knows where it takes us.

Very good displays by Reilly and O'Sullivan (especially his third quarter) and I thought Darragh Smyth did well. Good to see O'Sullivan get another 70minutes under his belt.

On another note, fair play to Andrew Tormey. It can not have been easy, with the week he experienced.

I thought the full back line did well, half back line not very good, midfield was poor, however forwards upped there performance and the subs who came on did very well. Was disappointed with one or two forwards. As someone said it is very much a 20 man game. A win is a win and something to develop on, something we have not had in;last few years. Htaem some of the players you mentioned were poor today!!

Good to win today obviously and I think we will do so again next Sunday. Biggy was exceptional again, but we need the same from him throughout 2016 and not just the OBC and early rounds of NFL. Paddys kickouts were very good, Keogan was excellent and James O'Reilly and Mickey Burke were the next best of the defenders. Rooney was his usual hard working self in the middle, while up front O' Sullivan has a gem of a left foot, Newman did well and Lenihan showed well, but I would like to see him stay in closer to goal where I think he will do most damage. The Ratoath lads will add to the options available as will James McEntee. All in all, a positive start to 2016, but nothing to get carried away with.

Yeah agree brownscow, defensively questionable. Defending for the goal was junior standard. And Longford could have had another if more clinical.

I agree Reilly was brilliant today, but teams with better systems and better players will target him in the league. As such we need more from our inside line.

First off congratulations to players and management, secondly if graham Reilly played for dubs Kerry or Donegal pundits would be falling over themselves to praise him.
That was some performance by biggy today, one of the best I have seen . Also hugely impressed with burke , Finn, smith, keoghan and despite a couple errors osullivan too. Also credit where credit due padsys kick outs were better today and there actually seemed to be a plan. Its only O'Byrne but I have a loud cheer when Donal lifted cup, it was a nice feeling as a fan, one I want to feel lot more often. So like has been said leys get behind team. And lets see what pans out. Hon the Royal

Lads Missed today's game I was at the Loais and Louth game. What's are people taken out of this year's O'Byrne Cup ?
Positives for me
1) we won it.
2) Donal Keoghan has been very solid and been a real leader.
3) Grahram Reilly is playing well. But will he putting in the same performances in the summer ?

Bob to answer your question, who was best player v Wicklow Westmeath (until wrongly black carded) and Tyrone? Biggy was. And just to add we fell asunder afre he went v Westmeath, while its only guess work but id wager my house on us still having our 100% record if he wasn't wrongly sent off, also he was player of the league last year. I dont think you have to worry too much, my only concern will be when teams double mark him, who will stand up?

That's the thing really isn't it royaldunne, Biggy is worth 3 or 4 points to us per game so the opposition know if they neutralise him then we're down a few scores. The frustrating thing is we have a few more good scoring forwards that are well capable of the same return but they're a little inconsistent, but it would be great to see a few lads stepping up and performing regularly.

I actually thought Menton was our player of the league last year.
