O'Bryne Cup 2016

Look no matter what you should be winning 8/10 of your own kick outs or at least 7. As bc rightly points out Laois did just that, I this stage id be happy winning 50% of our own kick outs. I'm sorry but the game has changed, por is a traditional kicker the game is ni longer traditional. I feel the time has come for a change.

Royaldunne, completely agree, adapt or move. Why this is not being worked on is beyond me. It happens at the lowest level of club football that teams work on winning their own kickout

Pretender , I cant understand it myself, I coach underage teams and it is one thing we practice on plenty, after 4 years of mod in charge how has he not seen it? Plus how has he not gone with different keeper if paddy can't adapt?

After 4 years you'd also think the following would be nailed down by a manager
1) A defensive plan
2) An offensive plan
3) A settled team and squad

Believe there was an article last week on HS on O'Byrne cup 3 years ago and of the team that started only 3 were still involved in the panel!!! Is that a sign of bad management, bad players or both??

On Paddy - McHugh has been his back up for 3 years and rarely challenged. When Paddy was out v Tyrone last summer most of us would've picked Brendan Murphy (40+ years old) to start as there were no other keepers in the squad. I believe Andy Colgan (Don/Ash) and Andy Markey (Dunboyne) were involved during the three years too. But were dropped again soon after. Might have names wrong there..

TBF to Micko anyone worth their salt has had a chance but maybe it's a case of the players just aren't there anymore and we need to get used to it and start developing from a younger age with proper caching of skills and a Meath way of playing that's in the players from 14-15 and consistent all the way to senior teams..

I see the dubs are hard at it every evening with their technology. Reminds me of Dolph lundgren in rocky iv. Are our lads out chopping timber yet?

What are the thoughts on the team for the Louth game? I would like to see MOD continue to experiment with a view to the Armagh game.

A few questions. Will Andrew Tormey return? Will Mickey Newman start? WIll Biggy continue in midfield or should they try someone else along with Rooney? Should Daire Rowe be brought into the panel? Should McHugh start in goals and what policy for kickouts?.

The loss of the Ratoath and Curraha players is in my humble opinion a problem in our preparation for the league. I am not sure if anyone knows what the best team is with everyone available.

For the Louth game I would stick with the likes of Judge and Tormey in the corner.Douglas and Geraghty.I thought Downey did well when he came on the other day,so would like to see him start. Also start Shane McEntee at midfield alongside Rooney as he did ok when he was introduced too.Newman needs more games Lenihan and McDonagh need another go.

It is a bit ironic when you see all the posts critising the manager (maybe it is justified, maybe not and I do not commenting at this stage). However I do know by reading the many posters (regulars) that a lot of posts appear a bit clueless when commenting on players performance. From a forward prospective the cannot see when a player does not tract back but the pick up the instance when he scores. They do not pick up when a forward solos around in circles when another player is in a good position going at pace towards the goals. Some forwards have a standard of passing that is junior standard (Curragh apart). Most of the better defenders score very little as a good defender means being able to mark your opposite number and set up accurately when you are in position (Ziggy a player you mentioned hit the corner flag with a pass!!! and we should be trying to improve midfield not more of the same). Other comments relate to a defender scoring a point and that means by some that he has played well.

Over the last 3 year there were many defenders who could score but were clueless when defending. There were forwards who could score but never had a work rate to tract back (midfielders included) and most could not accurately pass the ball more than 2m or tackle without giving away a silly foul. These are the weakness that allowed (along with poor kick outs) a very average Westmeath team to come from 10 points down to win. You need at least 5 to 6 new players (from last year) on the team if you are to develop a competitive streak. Complaining about being short this or that will get nobody anywhere and I have not seen too many standout players over the last 3 years (maybe 3 or 4 ).

You're right Browncows. You're obviously the only one on here who knows what they are talking about. All hail...

I actually agree with you and I have said many times that we have to defend better as a team. That I prefer my defenders to be good defenders first.I constantly complain about forwards and midfielders NOT tracking back.I am not convinced about the new players we have tried, but I would like another look at them against Louth.

Ziggy with the football one you can go to all adult football matches. It's not applicable if you want to go to a Don/Ash hurling game or any other hurling game. Juvenile matches aren't covered so you'll have to pay in to them.

Yeah Ziggy any adult club football game. You'll also have free entry to the club finals on St. Patrick's Day in Croker.

Assuming the Ratoath and Curraha players aren't available on Sunday and the panel will come from the players we've seen so far here is the fifteen I'd like to see on Sunday.

Conor McHugh
Nicky Judge
Donal Keogan
James O'Reilly
Alan Douglas
Mickey Burke
Conor Downey
Harry Rooney
Graham Reilly
Ruairí O'Coileain - unless he plays for the U-21's on Saturday.
Cillian O'Sullivan
Shane McEntee
Andrew Tormey
Dalton McDonagh
Donal Lenihan

Ziggy - I would be more inclined to judge players on dry ground like it will be in summer games and from what I know about Drogheda it is small and boggy which will suit a slow pace. It appears that my opinion has offended at least one contributor! Again I just hope everything goes well for all and just hope there are no injuries on a poor quality pitch as we have had one already this year

ziggy / jack on the season ticked you choose your code ie. football or hurling for county games, but i thought it covers you for all adult club games including u21 in both football and hurling within the county,[ championship, leagues, knock out competitions ] as i used mine for both codes in the county last year and nobody questioned me on it, may need to check that one out
