If its true about Morris I am not surprised, his knee was a ticking time bomb. He said it himself that returning to play so soon after seriously injuring it last year was a massive risk. Jack Kinlough has the same injury and its been 14 months and counting since he last played. Hard to believe Jordy was let play but Meath fans weren't complaining because he has been brilliant for us.

Replying To Sheridan2010louth:  "Actually still think we have enough quality forwards to put up a big score without him, we beat Derry in the league without Kinsella scoring at all, not downplaying his importance by any means he's obviously an unreal footballer, his work rate, link play, tackling and breaking ball wins will be badly missed. I just don't think our backs defend well enough to get the win on Saturday."
You mention it there, it's his link play that we'll miss. Just makes the right decision every time. Doesn't have to be an incredible pass, just a dink inside when other lads would be trying a Hollywood pass. Like lads are saying, our 1 saving grace is the forward line is where we have a few lads to come in and maybe Robbie will go with an extra midfielder in the half forward line like he does. I'd say JOC will come in at 10. Really hope Costello shook off the cobwebs against Cork as need him big time now.

Anybody else able to corroborate the Morris injury story? Any update on Ronan Jones? All this not ideal preparation, we'll really have our backs to the wall.

We have had injuries in the past and we've responded , specifically thinking about Costello, Morris, Flynn, Conlon over the course of the last 18 months so maybe that could be seen as evidence this team has the ability to respond.

With the nature of that injury the only option is to carry on, and where did you hear it was the knee again?

Agree. I would strongly consider throwing Jamie Murphy in at full forward as an additional scoring threat. McCaul for Monaghan had huge joy against Derry as a target man. Banty could feed off the scraps around Murphy. Frayne could flioat out around the arc playing more of the Kinsella role. Jack Flynn could attack from deep at midfield and everyone else around half forward line/midfield could work like dogs.

I like Murphy as well but is there something management seen that he still needs to improve that they haven't used him more? Maybe S&C? The only problem is he hasn't played at all so wouldn't be up to speed at this level.

Unfortunately as it turns out I can't go, I received a ticket as a birthday present for an event in dublin and it clashes.

This will be an exceptional victory if they can pull it off. The squad is jaded, tactics are faltering and this championship just gives you no chance to figure things out. How many games had we played last year by this time? - I worry about the lack of positive games or performances in months. Little support expected to this one- it was disappointing against cork and id expect even less this time.

Kinsella has a hand in 6-9 scores a game. The only way we get close to that is Flynn and morris.the word is morris has an arm injury and will probably be strapped up. Who knows what that means.

Im not expecting a ding dong at all. I'm expecting a bit more like the cavan league game. Midfielders half backs dominating possession, pop shots from the arc. We have the advantage there but we can't defend and if Derry dig in and defend in numbers and stop our play in close to goal . I think they'll get a lot of joy in evening the odds.

We all know we can do it. I see little change in tactics or outside forced personnel switch. Get the kickouts right we have enough.

I will be honest I'm extremely nervous- just as nervous for Westmeath and cork. We have lost our mojo and it does feel like the tide has turned on us.

"Extreme POV" as you yourself would say.

A month ago you were still optimistic that we could get a result against Cork and beyond. Now its a jaded squad and faltering tactics. What happened to change your mind?

Perhaps initially but Murphy came in as a young player and has been there a good few months now so the management would have had time to develop him. Don't expect his GPS numbers to ever be that high as he is just not that type of player but with his size and shooting ability, he is a serious threat upfront. Others outside of the guaranteed starters in forwardline have not set the world aliight so why not?

More injuries going into a knockout game against similarly matched team away, off the back of two losses. Costello, kinsella, Flynn, O'Neill all missing championship involvement is huge shame and that's what I mean by jaded, they're picking up knocks. It'll be a huge character build, grind result if we can get it.

Few months back we lost one game in 8 or something like that.

I'd imagine we're probably still favorites and I personally would say we are. Am I very confident of a strong meath win?, no. Id say we are 3 or 4 points the better team, especially with frayne, O'Connor, Flynn 2 point( kinsella huge loss in this department obviously)

If Flynn is fully fit and right id feel much better about it he was clearly off colour against cork.

I think I know what he's getting at. The squad have looked to be off the mark in terms of the levels of intensity / hunger that they had last year and in the league this year. Now, we're basing that off two games so will reserve judgement until we see what happens on Saturday. Kick-out tactics haven't been great so there's something to work on there. He's right on the support too - it has been easing off in line with the results but that happens in most counties.

If Morris can play I would still be optimistic of a result. Derry are vulnerable - didn't win a game last year, inconsistent in the league, threw it away against Monaghan and never really troubled Armagh. The big factor in their favour obviously is that it's in Celtic Park. We can negate that though if we go hammer and tongs from the throw-in. There's a sting in the tail of one of the teams - honestly think we have the higher upside over the next 2-3 years so this should be where we show it. The underdog roles suits us better than the favourites tag!

Last thing I'll say on Kinsella is that him not being there might drive the other forwards on to take greater personal responsibility.
