Great to see the Senior championship getting under way on Friday!!
With Colm ORourke now the man to impress there will be added incentive for players old and new to set a marker!!

Fri 05 Aug
Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group A, Venue: Pirc Tailteann, (Round 1), Wolfe Tones V Skryne 19:30, Ref: Derek Ryan - I fancy Skryne to come out on top on this! Davey Byrne did well with them in the league and will have them fully focused- seems to be getting the best out of Rooney and Campion too

Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group D, Venue: Trim, (Round 1), St Peter's, Dunboyne V Summerhill 19:30, Ref: Andrew Smith - I think this will be a close one but I fancy Dunboyne to sneak it by a couple

Sat 06 Aug
Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group A, Venue: Masterson Park Ardcath, (Round 1), Seneschalstown GFC V St Colmcilles 18:30, Ref: Cormac Reilly - Cilles went well in the league and look like they may have a decent back line - I think Cilles will take this one!

Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group B, Venue: Skryne, (Round 1), Moynalvey V Curraha 18:30, Ref: Kieran Olwell - I think Moynalvey will take the points here although I'd love to see the Ha prove me wrong! I just think they are short too many!!

Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group D, Venue: St. Finians Park, (Round 1), Ballinabrackey V Na Fianna CLG 18:30, Ref: Conor Dourneen - hard one to call here - Na Fianna went well last year but I actually fancy the Bracks for this!!

Sun 07 Aug
Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group B, Venue: Pirc Tailteann, (Round 1), Trim V Navan O'Mahonys 16:00, Ref: Patrick Coyle - trim seem to be getting things right on and off the pitch lately! I think they will beat NOM here and I fancy them to top this group!!

Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group C, Venue: Pirc Tailteann, (Round 1), Gaeil Colmcille V Donaghmore/Ashbourne 14:00, Ref: Stephen Dawson - I am going to go with Don Ash here - although Kells are never easy bro go against!

Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group C, Venue: Ashbourne, (Round 1), Ratoath V Simonstown 18:00, Ref: David Coldrick - this one is all about who is fit and who is injured! If both sides have full complement I think Ratoath will pip it! I am hearing both teams have several injury worries though so it will depend who is in and who is out!

Agreed, interesting to see how Simonstown go now that the news has broken......will it be an unnecessary distraction in an already difficult group and they limp away or do they use it as you said, as a chance to show what they have to a manager that already knows them and try force their way into the county set up???? Time will tell.

Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group A, Venue: Pirc Tailteann, (Round 1), Wolfe Tones V Skryne 19:30, Ref: Derek Ryan - Agree here, I think Skryne will win this one, moving quite well and missing nobody really through the league so should have their game plan and style down to a tee. Tones were very hit and miss in the league, however always know how to up their game for Championship so there will be no more than 2-3 points in this one I think

Cilles very well drilled and will win this by 5 or more

Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group D, Venue: St. Finians Park, (Round 1), Ballinabrackey V Na Fianna CLG 18:30, Ref: Conor Dourneen a 50/50 game between two very defensive sides. I will side with their league standings and lean towards Na Fianna by the minimum
Na Fianna by 1

Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group B, Venue: Pirc Tailteann, (Round 1), Trim V Navan O'Mahonys 16:00, Ref: Patrick Coyle - Navan looking like the favorites to go down and Trim will be to mobile, energetic and hungry for them.

Fairyhouse Steel - Senior Football Championship - Group C, Venue: Ashbourne, (Round 1), Ratoath V Simonstown 18:00, Ref: David Coldrick - Ratoath the best team in Senior in my opinion and should have to much for a Simonstown team that seem to only be getting lads back fit now. Barring any injuries in the Ratoath camp themselves I'm going with a Ratoath win by 4 or more

Skryne vs Tones... Skryne to win based off their league campaign and 7s victory. Wolfe Tones were a flash in the pan last year and I don't expect McDermott to repeat his miracle. Skryne by 4

Dunboyne vs Summerhill... Dunboyne are missing a few and don't have the depth which showed in last years final. Summerhill have the Frayne brothers who are both a year older, Dardis coming back from injury and added Adam Flanagan to bolster their midfield. Summerhill by 7

Moynalvey vs Curraha... Moynalvey are a different team when they have Harnan and O Sullivan. Think they should have too much for a depleted Ha side. Moynalvey by 9

Cilles vs Seneschalstown... Hard to tell where Seneschalstown are at, they have had very good underage teams the last 4 or 5 years but nothing is clicking yet where as Cilles underage is now showing it's results. Cilles by 7

Trim vs O Mahonys... Hard to know with this one, Trim have hurling to contend with and it's not going according to plan for them. O Mahony's have lost their old guard but weren't too far away in some league games. Trim by 1

Bracks vs Na Fianna... Bracks with Smullen in their ranks, the younger lads a year older and playing division 1 football should kick on to the next level. Na Fianna have regressed, they can be very leaky at the back. Bracks by 6

Ashbourne vs Kells... Not sure where either team is at. Both teams are still reliant on the same 4 or 5 lads to get them out trouble. They might cancel each other out. Going with a draw.

Ratoath vs Simonstown... Rumors doing the arounds Bobby O Brien is back, he will be a big addition to an already dangerous Ratoath attack. Daithi McGowan and Jack Flynn have a lot to prove at midfield if they are to be considered by O Rourke and he'll have a front row seat to see what they are like. Simonstown are similar to the other two teams in their group, still reliant on 4 or 5 plays only difference is they have McKeever who is a top class forward on his day and performs on the big occasion. Ratoath by 3

Skryne vs Tones - Tones have injuries , Skyrne have form so maybe skyrne by 1

Dunboyne vs Summerhill.-= heard both Fraynes are out but Dardis back - Still go with Dunboyne by 3

Moynalvey vs Curraha. - very close moynalvey by 2 as O sullivans the difference

Cilles vs Seneschalstown. - Cilles by 4 as playing well in Div 1

Trim vs O Mahonys - sneaky suspicion O mahonys could do i

Brack s vs Na Fianna - both under pressure for a win - dogfight - Bracks just about

Ashbourne vs Kells..= Kells by 2

Ratoath vs Simonstown..- Ratoath will have too much firepower up front

Skryne vs Tones - Tones seem to be struggling a little Skyrne appear to be on the up so narrow win for the Tara men

Dunboyne vs Summerhill. Dunboyne appear to have no form and Summerhill with League in pocket to win

Moynalvey vs Curraha. - Moynalvey ofter trip up on games their expected to win but should slip through here

Colmilles vs Seneschalstown. - St Colmcilles to win but not by as much as most expect

Trim vs O Mahonys - Trim looking a little jaded but OMahonys not up to much so Trim to begin life as Senior with a win

Ballinabrackey vs Na Fianna - Na Fianna have slipped a fair bit and Bracky be all gunhoe but Na Fianna narrowly

Don/Ashbourne vs Gaeil Colmcillle..Relucent to write off Kells just when they down they can bounce back but Don/Ash should have more fire power

Ratoath vs Simonstown.. Only one winner and thats Ratoath on their way to Keegan Cup success

Humble pie needed this morning, predictions a bit disrespectful on our county champions.…was at the game in Navan last night. This tones team took a poor Skyrne team apart. Skyrne must have been missing players. Tones without C Ward looked very comfortable. League is nothing to follow in terms of form on this last night. Physically a big team and class everywhere. Skyrne corner forward very impressive but on his own in attack. Tones on the other hand are not going to be rolled over to easy this year , early days but it's going to take a good team to dethrone the north Meath men.
Summerhill result very impressive too delighted to see it. Play a super style of football. They are going to be in the mix.
Kells to win
Rathoath to win
Curragha Moynalvey draw
Trim to win
Cilles to win
Na Fianna Ballinabrackey draw

Yeah - I'm 0 for 2 this morning! I thought Summerhill were outstanding last night! I fancied Dunboyne , not just for last night but for Keegan! If Tones were as good as you say then Dunboyne may not get out of the group!
Humble pie not too sweet!

Was at summerhill dunboyne, summerhill play proper football they attack at pace and defend with ferocity. Dunboyne awfully reliant on Lacey and Lenihan, they play too slow and can't get he ball into them. Ross Ryan was outstanding. Also Kevin Ryan and David Larkin would have caught the eye of any meath selectors in attendance, they were brilliant too.

Not Surprised with either result last night going on what I seen in my second season watching senior every week.

We played against them all in the league, I was really impressed with the Tones , their strength and conditioning was very impressive.

Dunboyne have problems in the club, was playing to be seen the night we visited them for league game.

If the Tones , Ratoath and Summerhill can avoid injuries they will provide the winner.

Cilles definitely on the up and are probably in the top 5 teams.

The rest are off these teams.

The Relegation will be as big as the knockouts, gonna have some big clubs battling to stay up.

My beloved Bracks have been riddled with injuries the last 2 months and have lost 2 fine young players to very long injuries but hopefully we see them back in the Green and Gold someday.

Hope to see us give Na Fianna a good run later however a small club like ourselves simply cannot afford an abundance of injuries so I'm more Hopeful than confident. But we wont ly down anyway.

They are seperate groups, Tones impressive and as other poster says it will take s good team.to beat them, early days but Skryne now play knockout football with likely them.or Cilles to progress with Tones. Referee last night was letting things go , sometimes a bit extreme but great not to have whistle blown every time someone is touched. Oisin Martin and o Neill bros deserve a crack at county football

Delighted for Connor Gillespie. He is apparently doing a fantastic job, and is definitely the most exciting young manager in county. Dunboyne seem at 6s and 7s at the moment and won't be near a final unless they sort themselves out. Cilles are coming good after all the underage success and indeed might have a say in who wins keegan this year. Tones look like they are intent on showing last year was no fluke even without cian. My bracks should easily retain senior status and indeed might cause a shock or two. All in all I hope one of the better championship in recent years awaits us.

10 years I've been banging the David Larkin drum on here. He's 100% intercounty class but never picked. Extraordinary given the paucity of talent in the county. Too late now I'd say, into his 30s.

Sorry Royaldunne , but up at the Cilles/ Sench game tonight , their along way off been the force you reckon , big time hype within the Cilles club , probably right with the talent they have coming through , I think they just might struggle within this group of death this year . Sench were very well organised tonight , Ciaran Macken appears to be working well with his resources and will because happy man tonight . Best of luck to both clubs for the remainder of campaign.

Well I was totally off on what might happen. Well done to na fianna and senchelstown. My heart was hoping for a bracks win to start the campaign and I was surprised by senchelstown. Wide open championship this year. And it seems the quality is better this year. Which can only be good going forward.

Not a great weekend for my predictions

Got to two of the games today

Was less than impressed with Don Ash - couldn't deal with Beano Hanlon - think he scored 9/10 points! Amazing how he performs for the club!

Ratoath simonstown was like a challenge game - end to end and some great play! Ratoath were brilliant at times while simonstown really relied on Padraic mckeever! I think he scored 1-9! Chatting with a Summerhill man at tge game today - he thought they were outstanding against Dunboyne but he thought Dunboyne were poor!

At this early stage - I think the relegation side of things possibly looks clearer than ultimate winners!

5/8 in this round. Tones proved me wrong and again showed they are most definitely a championship team. I didn't see the game but I though Skryne would show up this year after a very positive league campaign.
Kells and Ashbourne was a 50/50 game and in the end it was Beano's impeccable dead ball kicking that was the difference. 2 poor teams that gave the ball away multiple times under no pressure and I don't see wither team making it out of the group after seeing Ratoath and Simonstown play.
Senchalstown I think causing the shock of the round against what most people thought was a very good St. Colmcilles team who now all of a sudden could be looking at relegation battles as they will need to beat both Tones and Skryne to guarantee getting out of the group.
Its early doors but for me the winners are Ratoath with Summerhill/Tones the only teams who will come close to them.
Relegation will be Navan with Curragha/Bracks to beat them in the decider

Replying To royal1967:  "Had did Adam Flanagan do in his first senior championship game"
Flanagan was OK i wouldnt say he stood out, he wasn't catching many if any kickouts but didnt seem to matter as summerhill absolutely cleaned up on any breaking ball around him.

Replying To ratlag:  "5/8 in this round.
