Intermediate Championship 2022

Anyone at the Nobber - Walterstown game? Was keeping an eye on the score and assumed, with 10 minutes to go and Walterstown 8 points to the good, that the game was done. Couldn't believe the scoreline when I saw it later.
That sort of game will bring on Dunshaughlin infinitely more that their easy wins in the groups. Would expect them to have enough to win it out from here.

Replying To LeitrimRoyal99:  "It seems to me that Dunshauglin like Trim the last few years are definitely the most talented team in intermediate. But I could see them getting pipped in a sort of dour game by Rathkenny or St Michael's. And the loss in the league final might be in their mind in a close game. If Dunshauglin could get over a proper test against one of those teams there would be nothing stopping them going on a run like Trim last year and competing for Leinster and all Ireland. But they still have questions to answer in a close game"
They got their test from Rathkenny and they got though it. I'd be shocked if they didn't win it out now

Only for Adam McDermott in goal Dunshaughlin would have been beaten.

Brian Meade ran the show for Rathkenny, an unreal performance from him. Mitchell and McDermott got Dunshaughlin over the line. I don't know if Matt Costello was injured, but he was non-existent in the game. Rathkenny will rue their missed chances, a free from 21 metres, plus two goal chances. Dunshaughlin will win it out. Maybe this game is the wake up call they needed. Everyone thought they were unbeatable and were flying, but they were relegated for a reason last year. But playing bad and winning is a good sign, isn't it? Just one other point, Luke Mitchell scored one of the best points I've seen in Navan in a long time

Think Penalties is a very harsh way to exit a championship.

Wouldn't say it's a gimme that Dunshaughlin go and win it from here. They clearly have a talented young team, but Nobber are an experienced intermediate side more than capable of beating them. Rathkenny probably could have beaten them, and if you try gauge the form of the teams left in the champuonsup - Duleek/Bellewstown haven beaten Rathkenny in the group stage - there's not much between a lot of these teams. Wouldn't be slightly surprised if Nobber edged it.

Personally think it will be Dunshaughlin V Dunderry final. Dunderry will go defensive, they did well to an extent in the league against Dunshaughlin playing that way. Dunshaughlin struggled to break down Rathkenny when they played with a lot of men back.

It's a complete and utter gimme for Dunshaughlin imo. Watched the Nobber v Walt game, and in fairness they showed great spirit in final 7/8 mins, but were very poor besides that. In fairness their Goals , taken well but was out of sync with the game. I suppose you never know as I would have had a few predictions wrong last weekend namely curragha beating colmcilles but nevertheless. Dunsh by 10+ . Dunderry to account for a v fit and able Duleek/Bel team. and Dunsh to edge the final by 3 or 4.

The relegation final is not an easy one to predict, at the start of the year I predicted Clan Na Gael would be one of the three to go down, but now I am changing my mind and hope they stay up, a big town like Athboy should not be playing Junior Championship.
None of the teams in the semi finals this year contested last years semi finals.
It is very doubtful that the Nobber/ Dunshaughlin semi final will be anyway close, if it is, it means Dunshaughlin are not as good as many thought.
The other semi final is the highlight of the three games with high scoring Duleek/Bellewstown taking on blanket defence Dunderry. I am going for a Duleek win based on the fact that they have a great spread of scorers and Dunderry are very reliant on two to knock up the scores, Coogan and Adam Kelly.
So I am predicting a Duleek- Dunshaughlin Final.

Duleek Bellewstown , team performance of the year so far , 1 to 20 they were magnificent today against a poor Dunderry team , that appeared hampered before ko with injuries. Dont think Dunshaughlin will have it all there own way in the final. Bowden' Bros , Shane Crosby , Young Miland & Byrne all are accompolished ballers along with the experienced Flood , Howard & Clarke . Joe has D / B moving well , they looked fit today and played a nice brand of football .let's hope it a Good final.

It would be massive to get back on first time of asking, but no gimmie., no such thing in a final

Poor auld dunderry, always the bridesmaids. Duleek absolutley steam rolled them. Duleek to push dunshaughlin.

In fairness to dunderry they have the hurling, they're usually good for that intermediate, think theyve won it 3 times in the last 10 years.

That Duleek-Bellewstown win really surprised me. Saw them against Pats and didn't think much of them. I thought it would be tight and my preference was for a Dunderry win. I thought they would set up and frustrate Duleek. I was completely wrong. The other game was very poor. Nobber not up to much. Dunshaughlin were poor in first half but kicked on when things opened up, Ruairi Kinsella is a very talented player. I think they will have too much for Duleek in the final, but Dunshaughlin need to start better. Matthew Costello poor again for the winners. County players, particularly at Intermediate level, really need to stand out more. Not sure what position he is playing for Dunshaughlin.

Matthew Costello has been very average for a while now and it's worrying as he's one of Meath's better up and coming players. Even in a Meath jersey, you'd ask yourself at time - what's his best position? And if we're still saying the same things at Intermediate level, that's far from ideal.

That been said, it's an interesting final, Dunshaughlin surely hot favourites but as you said Duleek-Bellewstown have shocked a few this season. Hope they set up like they did against Dunderry, far too easy for them to just sit off Dunshaughlin. They're definitely not without a chance, might be a bridge too far but they've got a shot

A very interesting match up - A case of Dejau Vu??
25 years ago both these teams lined up against each other in the Intermediate final . .
Both teams managed by a respected former incounter county players . . Duleek managed by Eamonn Barry and Dunshaughlin by the Great Colm O Rourke . . The Black and Amber romped home that day . . Now fast forward 25 years
Dunshaughlin V Duleek
Dunshaughlin managed by Dunshaughlins Richie Kealy and Duleek being steered by Big Joe Sheridan . .

Will history repeat itself???

I cant see anything except for a comprehensive Dunshaughlin win , Duleek to be Blown out of the water again

Think Dunshaughlin will win but I don't think they will blow Duleek out of the water.

Dunshaughlin to win by 4/5

Duleek were very impressive however dunderry just didn't turn up. For me it all comes down to if Dunshaughlin can silence Alan Bowden. He was terrific for Duleek and although Foley managed to get into the team of the week I didn't think he silenced Meade by any matter of means with Meade being a constant threat and foley constantly fouling. If foley is placed on young Bowden I think Dunshaughlin will find themselves in trouble as foley struggled massively on the likes of Aaron Lynch and Bowden will be of a similar class.
On the other hand will duleek be able to silence 6 quality Dunshaughlin forwards up top ?! Going to be a very interesting game.

Bowden is a great talent. Dunshaughlin will still have too much for Duleek.
