Meath Hurling 2022

Does anyone know the team that played Westmeath today? Looks like they have them a bit of a game at least. Many new faces? I know they were missing the Trim lads.

Good performance from the Meath lads, no denying the fact that Kildare were missing the Naas contingent.
Difficult wind to content with which kept the score down. Think Meath hit 10/11 wides in the first half.
Had Meath converted their chances it could have been a cricket score, although if Kildare had been a bit sharper in the second half they could have nicked it at the end.

We've had Kildare's number the last few years so was always confident, especially with their Naas contingent missing. Nice to get a win and we can breathe slightly easier regarding relegation.

On the other hand, Down have had our number in the last few meetings and got a win against Carlow last weekend, so will be a big test for us.

We were down the trim lads so neither had full teams.

Down at home we need to win and have great chance , if that game is away you are up again it.
A win on sunday and the div really opens up , we would be safe and could look push on and beat some of the bigger teams.

Exactly as I see it.

If rumours are to be believed several of the Trim lads won't be coming back, so it was closer to a full Meath team than we'd have thought.

After a good win first round i was not expecting relegation to 2b.
Hard to see where a win will come from , kildare to get a win in down was a shock.
Lost a few important players over the winter and without guys to step in of the same standard.
Trim lads look to want to concentrate on club this year which is understandable as they have had a very long year.
Big change in playing style also.
But the county team has had poor league campaign before and went onto have good seasons so all is not doom and gloom but 2b hurling will be no good to this team.

If we finish level on points with Kildare does it go on head to head and will we be safe?

If only two teams are level, it goes to the head to head result. If more than two teams are level, it's score difference.
We have been insanely lucky that we came up against Kildare without their Naas contingent. We better hope that Kildare don't get anything from their games against Carlow and Westmeath as if they were to even get a point, I can't see us being able to stay up.

If only two teams finish level on points then the head-to-head between those two count.
However should Kildare pick up further points we would have to do likewise or we drop.

Hopefully we do enough to hang on

I think our survival relies on Kildare picking up no more points to be honest. I'd be surprised if we picked up any points against Kerry or Carlow.

Kildare drew with Carlow today while we went down badly in Kerry. Now at the bottom so only chance of survival is to beat Carlow.

Embarrassing result.. how far back has this team gone since winning the Christy Ring against Down.
Seems to me that our best players in the county are not committing, questions must be asked why?
How can Antrim, Kildare, Down, Westmeath kick on so much in previous years while this Meath team are taking beating after beating

I know they are trying to implement a certain style of play, but it's just doesn't seem to be working. That style is supposed to work the ball into scoring positions but play is breaking down under pressure and no out ball into full forward line either, then giving up easy scores... a hard watch atm

Wasn't at the Kerry game, so won't comment but against Westmeath and Down we were caught literally asleep at the start conceding a goal inside the first minute in BOTH games…now conceding in the first game is bad enough to to be equally asleep at the start of the next game shows that nothing has been learned by either team or management.

It also appears that a few clubs and indeed a few prominent players are excluded from the setup…I honestly don't know wither they (the clubs or players) are being excluded or are excluding themselves. But something is wrong when this happening.

For far too long the target in this division seems to be to avoid relegation rather than to push on to the next level. Negative thoughts are very destructive you know. Hopefully POSITIVE thoughts will return for the Carlow game where a win will ensure survival. Then next year go for the jugular.

Forget the style , tactics ,management everything.
They don't have a good enough panel and that's simple as . The trainings are meant to be the best in years but unfortunately our best hurlers aren't even on the panel because they won't commit ! Reasons vary from football to injuries. Since the last game of last year there's 8 lads missing from the team that started that day!
