2021 County Hurlers

(Oldest Posts First)

so 2 games in, heavy loss to Offaly and slender win against Wicklow, with away trips to Down and Kerry to come and a home game with Carlow where will we end up. Down beating Carlow must be given us some hope for 2 home points and then 2 points in Ballycran would be nice, not sure about the Kerry trip, doesn't normally bare much fruit for us. Like the look of the panel that has been assembled, would like to see some of the younger guys getting some game time if they are fit for it based on what management see in training. second place is achievable in this group assuming Offaly win all their games.

Offaly seem to be on a different level for this group atm. Seen them against Kerry and they looked sharp. Down is a strange one as you never know what to expect from them. ANOTHER trip to Kerry sounds great fun, hopefully an improvement on last years Joe McD game.

Agree the panel is exciting and was badly in need of a freshen up. What is our realistic target for the year especially in the Joe McD Cup? are we happy once we dont finish last without a win. Kildare seem to have got their act together and are currently getting their highly talented Naas contingent up to senior level. Hopefully we get to see the younger lads get a run in all positions, seems to have been the same names floating around the county panel for the last 10 years (not meant as a dig at anyone who gives up their time for our county)

Ah in fairness watching the game the lads made the best of the horrible conditions. once it started to brighten up they kicked on. Have to give them slack too as lets be honest they only back less than a month so will take time. We have always been a team that improves week on week so hopefully sign of things to come. have said before though that the managment are very by the book in terms of tactics so not the hardest team in the world for other to set up and give us headaches.

yeah in fairness there only back but its a cut throat league and championship, we need to get to the pace in Kerry this week, a win here is very possible with the right start, not sure last weeks starting team will be mirrored this week, couple of areas need a little more tweaking IMO, don't like this holding/extra midfielder, we need 6 forwards pushing on, at this level its very difficult and must be frustrating for our player when opposition defense has free man. would like to see us man on man this week. Is the Kerry game been screened.

Same team named to start as the Wicklow game, hopefully we can go down to Kerry and attack them from the throw in. would leave us in a great position in the group. Did our sub goalkeeper from Kildalkey step away also?

A win on Sunday would be a super result with Carlow and Down to follow, neither will be easy regardless of the Kerry result but a win would give the boys a huge lift going to training on Tuesday. Is the published team a duff team or the actual team I wonder, wonder has the keeper stepped away or is he injured ?

I Wouldn't be to worried about the league this year, lads hardly had anytime to prepare for it.
Looks like to me there using the league to try players out and then give the Joe Mac a right go.
Strongest panel I've soon meath have.
Add Quigley, Dara kelly, Brennan, Gannon, o donnacha, morris, ger Murphy, damien Healy and few more to the mix on top of the 15 going out Sunday that's a strong panel.
Gannon Odonnacha and Healy nailed on to start come Joe Mac

This weekends game against Carlow means nothing in terms of league standing, but a win would be big so i hope Management are going to experiment again, I'd like to see championship team play last two games

results would suggest that a win against Kerry this weekend is unlikely, but lets hope it does happen, that said we would need to win by 10 plus I think, probably time for panel shake up and see more like Ian Birmingham in the panel going forward. Its a tough gig at the moment.

Can anyone in the know tell me what happened the Meath/Antrim Minor hurling match? It disappeared from the fixtures about a day or 2 ago, and I can't see any score or result anywhere, and now we're scheduled to play Dublin in a Leinster QF.

I take it Antrim gave a walkover?

Meath got a walkover, only read that Antrim could not fullfill fixture

All the Mcgowans are missing from Meath's 2 Joe McDonagh games. What's going on there?

They played a hurling match their with their club 2 weeks ago when told not too. No other county lads have, even the squad members.

Fair enough. The Meath senior hurling team is gone to s**t anyway. Still gonna get hammered in the rest of the McDonagh Cup games. Need an outside high profile manager to take over. We've gone backwards since Weir took over

Seems like we have gone backwards, unbelievable to look at Antrim how far they have moved forward since 2016 compared to us.
How have kildare and down moved ahead of us ?
We looked so weak V down physically is there any s&c being done ?
I know we are missing two big forwards in Healy and McGowan but we could of being there all day and no one would of catch a puck out

A tough result this evening. A first Joe McDonagh Cup win and finish bottom of a three way tie on score difference. Loser of Meath v Kildare back to C Ring.

Back on the horse and beat Kildare this weekend, retain Joe Mc status ands build on the positive of a Joe Mc win. Best wishes to management and players.

Important win today against Kildare. Next year's Joe McDonagh Cup will be tough going but it's essential that we stay at this level.
