2020 Senior Hurling Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Has there been any update as to when this final will be played or will it ever be played?

Been thinking and correct me if I am wrong but can the Meath senior championship go ahead this year if the 2020 intermediate hurling final has not been played? Navan had been relegated so it leaves a hole to be filled.

I would imagine that there is a plan in place does anyone know it?

Plan is:

football, football, football,

Knowing the powers that be they will prob just scratch last years comps and re-run same format with same teams in each champ as be easier than actually doing it the right way.

All being driving by the money hungry croker. Cant imagine we will have to wait long for the footballers to be freed up though.

Set out the first weekend of August as the 2020 weekend and play all the remaining hurling and football finals (there's a small number of "premier" finals yet to be played) as a big blitz in PT. Then start the championships as normal the following week.

Draws are easily done, just include "Boardsmill/Wolfe Tones" in one slot in the SHC draw, "Ratoath/Kilmessan" for the IHC etc.

There could be a few promotion or relegation playoffs still to go as well. As far as I'm aware, relegation hasn't been sorted for the 2020 JHC and it's not clear what team will go up from the B section to the A section in the IHC since both Trim and Kilskyre/Moylough reached the same stage in 2020.

Well I'm not talking from any position of authority, I'm just posting the only sensible solution I can imagine!

That makes the most sense.

One problem with that is there seems to be a big issue with NPHET and finals. There were a lot of spikes/spread last year following county final celebrations.

NPHET wont want club seasons starting with finals.

County boards will have to be flexible with competition formats. Possibly allowing extra teams in grades.
I can see a scenario where the 2020 final is played after the 2021 championship starts. Or maybe even double up the fixture if Trim and Ratoath meet in the early rounds.

Give the hurling championship and any leftover 2020 matches all the championship slots in August. (Football league in between)

Chance for club hurling to get plenty of local media coverage in August. Given how much has been missed we should use the full year this year.

Looks like the u20 All Ireland won't be on next week.

Anyone any idea of when it'll be played?

If Croke park fix it for the 8th of August the only logical thing to do would be to double up the first round of 2021 Championship (also Trim V Ratoath) as the county final on the 22nd of August? I don't see another solution without messing up the entire calendar.

If it was the only game that might make work, but what would we do for the other finals/playoffs?

They can't start the SHC or IHC until they know who's in them, and that can't be sorted without playing the 2020 IHC and JHC finals. So they'll have to use a weekend to play those no matter what.

I don't think doubling up with this years championship is an option. The panels for 2020 and 2021 are different.

It's a joke there's been nothing fixed yet.

u20 final should've been confirmed by now given that Derry won their CR semi-final last weekend.

Very unfair on both Trim and Ratoath who are trying to prep for a final.

Not much talk about the senior hurling final on Sunday
For me the question is
Do Ratoath have someone to mark Douglas and do Trim have someone to mark Gavin McGown
After that it's pretty tight and could go either way

i think ratho will have superior fitness and strength levels. Heffernan a huge loss to trim as dont think he is available. should be a great game but apparently only 500 tickets being allocated across the minor and senior game which is bonkers considering the size of the stadium.

Think Ratoath will win this at a canter, Trim don't seem to offer much from there inside forwards to worry Ratoath.

Dont think it will be a canter now as trim defence has improved drastically this past year but agree if the game on sunday was anything to go by they had no full forward line and every ball in was swiftly turned over.

Think the ticket allowances for this game is a bit insane given the size of the stadium.

minimum 500 to each elevation. is this being driven by current guidlines or an unwillingness to open the far stand?
