U'21 Hurling Championship

Replying To Joe_soap1:  "Absolute disgrace having a u21 hurling championship final in baconstown . Few players from boardsmill/rathmoylan actually play football for na fianna so might aswell be home advantage for them. Bringing kilmessan/drumree through boardsmill when there's a perfectly good pitch in Trim especially for a final. You can argue that it's the b championship but after winning a few games to get to a final the younger lads should deserve a good day out in decent conditions. Whoever makes these decisions really have to look at themselves."
You're well lost if you go through Boardsmill to get to Baconstown but you're right Trim should be the venue. No consideration shown at all.

I didn't mean specifically go through boardsmill. Just making sure everyone got the jist of what I was trying to say.

Should be a good final. K/Lwood by the minimum I think.

Meathman you must've banged your head. Trim haven't lost one player from last year and gained Meath minors Gary Fleming and James Murray aswell as other minors. Trim by 6+

Hurlit I think it will be a lot closer than you think, complacency could be an issue with the Trim team!

Just looking at the manner of K/L's victory against a CnaG at full confidence, quite a good performance.

Wouldn't be able to comment on that but seeing as though trim have only gained players and destroyed both kildalkey and Ratoath who I would've had as potential winners I feel it could be a lopsided affair. Hopefully not though

Facile win in the end for a trim side who's top players never even got into second gear..
a side for the future who remind me of the kiltale u21 side containing the Kelly's, Ryan's, Jack Regan etc from a few years back who went on to back bone the 5 in a row team..

Goals win games and the first half was relatively even besides the Trim goals. The 3rd Trim goal which was unfortunate for the K/L keeper finished the game as a contest.

I don't think there is a provincial under 21 club competition (and probably best due to possible player burnout).

However, it would be interesting to see how this team would fare against champions in similar counties - Kildare/Westmeath/Carlow/Offaly/Laois.

I thought the exact same, would be very interesting!
Realistically from a spectators point of view, was it ever a contest?
I don't think Trim realize how special an achievement it is winning the double!

Called the final very wrong. K/L not half as good as what I thought- and I hear they had 4 or 5 playing on the county team??

Good call , best bunch of young lads since that kiltale team that won a couple of u21s / minors at the same time.

Very positive for trim hurling if they can keep those lads playing and out of the pubs

I believe, but may be wrong, that Navan O'Mahonys won 7 u21 hurling Championships in a row. It is no guarantee of senior success.

I would suggest that their failure to turn that to senior arose from their focus being primarily on Football which resulted in a good few titles. Duel club but not an even balance in terms of focus

Good point.

Trim should be strong in SHC next year with these players coming through alongside Toher, Douglas, Heffernan etc but there could be a sting in the tail from Kiltale with Kildalkey also rejuvenated from this year.

Not sure it's that straightforward for Trim to win SHC. However they have a short window in which to win the SHC with these young lads before they lose interest. Young lads today are not as committed. Thought they might have altered the management team a bit. For me if kiltale re focus they are the team to beat again.

I don't know about that Stickfan, I'd know a lot of these hurlers personally and they are stone wall mad for the hurling. A lot even have 5+ years Senior Hurling experience.
They still would be my second favs for championship behind Kiltale, Kildalkey overrated imho

I understand that they are mad for hurling, like you i know most of them persoanlly but i feel if they dont get there in the next 2 years they will have to wait for the next bus to come, be interested to see does football have any effect next year as Trim will really feel they are favs for IFC in 2020, think kiltale will be everyones favourite again but it could also be the end of that particular team, all that said if Trim get over the line in 2020 in the SHC they could do what kiltale done in terms of domination and could also make in roads in leinster where Meath teams outside of Kilmessan have failed miserably, however i am really surprised that they havent tweaked their management/ backroom team, if you think our county champions are over rated well thats a very poor sign of our club hurling as they beat our red hot favourites convincingly in a replay when really they should have beat them the 1st day , not saying your right or wrong just my thoughts.
