Positive start for sure though Laois not at full strength and by their own admission not prepared for the new rules. Still good to see us rack up a few scores. A strong finish would have been nice but not necessary. Great to see the new names get in on the scoresheet and Newman looking sharp for frees. Longford will be tougher next week. He is a superb player, of that there is no doubt, but I would caution comparison to any player just yet. There has been many potential great players who unfortunately never did it at senior level due to injuries etc. Gillespie been the prime recent example. But there is no doubt this young man has a unbelievable natural talent for the game, I'm delighted he hasn't been tempted by the afl.
